The Blackmagic Design SmartView 4K G3 is a professional 15.6" TFT LCD monitor that features built-in optical and copper SMPTE‑2110 IP video connections so you can connect directly to IP-based broadcast systems. It has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and also offers two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs for connecting to a range of pro video equipment. The inputs automatically switch between SD, HD, and 4K formats, including up to DCI 4K60. Its design features a lightweight machined aluminum chassis and a full-resolution UHD 4K LCD screen. The on-screen overlays include focus peaking, framing guides, safe area, and more. It also has built-in 3D LUTs for adding creative looks, converting log film gamma, or handling custom HDR profiles.

Versatile Monitoring Solution

The SmartView 4K G3 is compatible with both 12G-SDI and SMPTE 2110 IP video formats, supporting resolutions up to UHD 4K60, which renders it highly suitable for broadcasting applications. Its 4K display, along with advanced imaging functionalities such as focus peaking, zoom capabilities, aspect ratio markers, and tally indicators, enhances its effectiveness for live production environments. Additionally, the unit's 6 RU lightweight yet robust aluminum design makes the SmartView 4K G3 an excellent choice for fly packs and on-location setups.

3D LUT Monitoring

Bid farewell to the dull appearance of SDI sources encoded with log film gamma or an HDR profile. The SmartView 4K G3 offers support for 3D LUTs, allowing you to remap the color space of SDI or 2110 inputs to the SmartView 4K display or to introduce a captivating creative aesthetic. You can easily upload 3D LUTs via the SmartView utility and export color grades from DaVinci Resolve as custom 3D LUTs. As DaVinci Resolve is available for free, you can begin building an impressive library of dynamic 3D LUTs at no cost.

Multiple Resolution Support

The advanced 12G-SDI and 10G Ethernet-based 2110 IP inputs are designed to be multi-rate, accommodating various resolutions including SD for archiving, HD for broadcasting, and 2K UHD for feature film applications. Additionally, the SmartView 4K G3 is compatible with UHD video standards across both its 12G-SDI and 10G Ethernet-based 2110 IP video inputs. This capability positions the SmartView 4K as an optimal monitoring solution, facilitating a transition to UHD and 4K workflows, while also allowing for the integration of new television standards through software updates as they become available.

Front Panel Buttons and Customizable Frame Markers

The SmartView 4K G features an extensive array of front panel monitoring controls. These include an input button that allows users to switch between the two 12G-SDI video inputs and the 2110 IP video input. Furthermore, it offers additional functionalities such as brightness adjustment, horizontal/vertical display options, a blue-only mode, zoom capabilities, focus peaking, 3D LUT selection, and the ability to display up to four on-screen markers.

NMOS Protocol for Virtual Routing

The SmartView 4K G3 is compatible with NMOS interface specifications, enabling seamless operation of all your 2110 IP video devices as a unified virtual router. Additionally, it features Videohub Smart Control, which facilitates the routing of sources to destinations within 2110 IP networks by functioning as an NMOS controller. The NMOS interface specification outlines the processes for discovering and managing SMPTE 2110 devices on IP networks. The SmartView 4K G3 supports IS-04 for the discovery and registration of IP video devices, as well as IS-05 for managing connections between these devices. Consequently, it allows for the establishment of connections between sources and destinations in a manner akin to a conventional SDI router.

macOS and Windows Remote Control Software

Simply download and run the free SmartView utility macOS or Windows software to change settings or update the software on your SmartView 4K G3. Use the utility to change the monitor's custom name for identifying monitors in larger systems and to select between 3G-SDI level A and level B formatting. To protect against unauthorized network access, Ethernet is disabled by default but can be enabled when connecting via USB.

Connects Directly to SMPTE 2110 IP Networks

The SmartView 4K is fully compliant with the SMPTE‑2110 standard for IP video, featuring both optical fiber and copper 10G Ethernet connections, which facilitates the development of contemporary IP video systems. The SMPTE‑2110 standard outlines the transport, synchronization, and description of video, audio, and ancillary data across IP networks for broadcasting purposes. This encompasses support for SMPTE‑2110-20 uncompressed video, the Blackmagic IP codec designed for high frame rate Ultra HD, as well as SMPTE‑2110-21 for traffic shaping and timing, SMPTE‑2110-30 for audio, and SMPTE‑2110-40 for ancillary data. Additionally, the chosen video input can be transmitted through the 10G Ethernet SMPTE‑2110 IP connection, fully supporting multicast to multiple destinations.

Tally Border

Support for the Blackmagic SDI Tally Protocol provides the SmartView 4K G3 with an illuminated colored border around the image, in red for on-air or green for preview. This SDI tally standard is used on all ATEM live production switchers so you can simply connect the monitor to the switcher SDI outputs to get the image and the tally with a single BNC cable. This means that a director can cut between cameras and the tally information will be sent back to the SmartView 4K via the SDI video feed.

Custom Remote Solutions

Videohub includes a powerful remote control protocol so you can create custom remote control solutions for integrating the SmartView 4K G3 into your broadcast systems. It's extremely easy to learn because it's a simple text-based protocol that you can even play with using a Telnet client. This means you can create custom control solutions on all computer platforms and from embedded hardware such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino. It offers full control of LCD brightness, contrast, saturation, tally, input selection, and 3D LUT activation. The best way to learn the protocol is to log in using a simple Telnet app and then use the documentation in the SmartView 4K manual to try out each command.
