The Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Extreme serves as an 8-input live production switcher tailored for live streaming applications. It is equipped with a built-in control panel and boasts sophisticated broadcasting capabilities. Beyond live streaming via RTMP protocols, it allows users to output their program as a webcam through USB connectivity. This adaptable switcher accommodates eight independent HDMI inputs, which support all widely used HD signals up to 1080p60. Each input is equipped with individual frame rate and format converters, and it facilitates re-syncing to ensure smooth transitions between various professional and consumer cameras, gaming consoles, and computer sources.
Utilize the control surface's buttons or the software control panel to switch, apply effects, color grade, and key in real time. The CCU functions enable the management of Blackmagic Studio and URSA Mini/Broadcast/Micro Studio cameras directly from the switcher. The ATEM Mini Extreme accommodates a maximum of nine layers, featuring four upstream keyers and two downstream keyers, along with up to four chroma keyers, four linear keyers, two DVEs with borders and drop shadows, five pattern generators, and two color generators. Tailored for live streaming or webcam production, the Mini Extreme includes HDMI outputs for monitor connections and supports a multiview setup of up to 16 screens.
Stream Live
Live stream to YouTube, Facebook Live, Skype, Twitch, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other platforms that support RTMP protocols.
Control Interface
The front panel is equipped with user-friendly buttons designed for selecting sources, applying video effects, and managing transitions. The source buttons are generously sized, enabling tactile operation. The ATEM Extreme features dedicated buttons for audio mixing, recording, and streaming management, in addition to output selection buttons that facilitate switching the video output among cameras, the program feed, and multiview. On the rear panel, users will find HDMI ports for connecting cameras or computers, additional microphone inputs, a USB port for webcam output, and an HDMI "AUX" output for program video.
Output
You have the option to utilize the Ethernet connection for network output or to employ the USB Type-C output, allowing your switch to be identified as a webcam input by a wide range of video software, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, Open Broadcaster, XSplit Broadcaster, and more.
4G and 5G Phone Support
When conducting live production on-site, the ATEM Mini Extreme models allow for the connection of an Apple or Android smartphone to the USB port, enabling the use of mobile data. This feature serves as an excellent backup for the primary Ethernet connection, ensuring that your stream remains uninterrupted in the event of a disruption to the hardwired connection. The switcher will seamlessly transition to utilizing the phone as the main connection, and the USB port will simultaneously charge your phone, preventing battery depletion.
Multiview Monitoring
The HDMI output can be set up for multiview, accommodating configurations of 4, 7, 10, 13, or up to 16 views. This includes options for Program, Preview, eight HDMI inputs, SuperSource, clean feed, media player, streaming status, recording status, and audio meters.
Camera Control
The ATEM Mini Extreme is capable of managing the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K models, provided they are updated to the most recent software version and connected through the HDMI inputs. This device allows for the adjustment of various HDMI camera settings, including iris, gain, focus, detail, and zoom control for compatible lenses. Additionally, users can perform color balancing on the cameras and develop distinctive visual styles utilizing the DaVinci Resolve primary color corrector integrated within the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K.
Media Pool
The switcher can store up to 20 images with fill and key, and it supports PNG, TGA, BMP, GIF, JPEG, and TIFF file formats.
Compatibility
It includes the ATEM Software Control Panel, and it is also compatible with the ATEM 1 M/E, ATEM 2 M/E, and ATEM 4 M/E Advanced Panels. The ATEM Mini Extreme can be configured using Blackmagic's Videohub Hardware Panel Setup utility to route sources to destinations using Videohub Smart Control Pro and Videohub Master Control Pro.
Recording
The ATEM Mini Extreme models facilitate the direct recording of streaming data onto USB flash drives, utilizing the same H.264 video files accompanied by AAC audio that are being streamed. Additionally, the capability to record onto multiple drives is available through a USB hub or the Blackmagic MultiDock, allowing for uninterrupted recording as one drive fills up and the system seamlessly transitions to a second drive. Configuration of recording settings and disk selection is managed through the ATEM Software Control, and a record status display is accessible in the integrated multiview. Furthermore, recording can be initiated on connected Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras.
Video Effects
One of the advantages of the ATEM Mini is its ability to deliver professional production quality through a variety of integrated video effects. The cut button facilitates an immediate switch between sources. The auto button, a term commonly used in large broadcast switchers, allows for seamless video effect transitions. Additionally, there are duration buttons for video effects that provide settings of 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 seconds. Users can also choose from different types of effects, including mix, which offers a smooth transition between sources, and dip, which transitions by fading to a color. Alternatively, one can utilize engaging DVE effects that shift the image off-screen during source transitions.
Audio
The device is equipped with two independent 3.5mm stereo audio inputs, allowing for the connection of both desktop and lapel microphones. Additionally, a music player can be linked to provide introductory music following the commencement of the live stream but prior to the start of the program. The inclusion of two additional stereo audio inputs ensures that both the host and guest can utilize lapel microphones during interviews. Each audio input on the ATEM Mini is accompanied by control buttons on the panel for adjusting audio levels and enabling inputs into the audio mixer. All models are equipped with a Fairlight audio mixer that integrates all HDMI inputs, and both microphone inputs are routed to the audio mixer, facilitating live mixing from various audio sources. Furthermore, the ATEM Mini Extreme model features a headphone output.
Broadcast Features
Hiding in the ATEM Mini Extreme models are a host of broadcast-caliber features that are accessible when connected to a Mac or Windows computer running the free ATEM Software Control app.
