The Canon Speedlite EL-1 is an on-camera E-TTL / E-TTL II-compatible flash that embodies power, connectivity, and reliability, making it adaptable to various lighting requirements. It is equipped with a xenon flashtube, which enhances exposure stability and boasts a powerful guide number of 197' at ISO 100, along with flexible exposure control ranging from full 1/1 power down to 1/8192 power. Notably, the EL-1 employs the LP-EL rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, facilitating shorter recycle times of approximately 0.9 seconds, around 335 flashes per charge, and it aids in better thermal management as well as the flash's active cooling system.
Designed for professional use, the EL-1 is fully compatible with RT-series flash products for radio-based wireless control and triggering, including wireless second-curtain sync. Its robust physical design matches the dust and water resistance of the EOS-1D-series camera bodies. The enhanced user interface features an updated joystick design, display, and control layout, and it includes a tunable LED modeling lamp to assist in visualizing the lighting. Furthermore, the flash head can swivel fully 180° to the left and right, bounce upward by 120°, and it comes with a built-in wide panel.
