The Canon EOS C80 6K Full-Frame Cinema Camera delivers outstanding 6K30 full-frame recording in a compact design, combining the CMOS sensor of the EOS C400 with a lightweight structure akin to that of the EOS C70. This camera is particularly suited for dynamic shooting environments and individual operators. It boasts triple ISO settings of 800, 3200, and 12,800 in log/raw formats, enhanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus, and the capability for simultaneous 12G-SDI and HDMI video output. The RF mount of the EOS C80 ensures compatibility with Canon's fast and dependable RF lenses, while a motorized ND filter wheel allows for real-time exposure adjustments.
6K Full Frame Back-illuminated Stacked CMOS Sensor
The EOS C80 is equipped with a 6K back-illuminated stacked full-frame CMOS sensor. This advanced sensor significantly reduces noise levels, allowing the camera to perform exceptionally well across diverse lighting conditions while fully utilizing its dynamic range. Additionally, the new sensor boasts quicker read-out speeds compared to earlier EOS models. Its architecture enhances sensitivity relative to front-illuminated CMOS sensors, thereby increasing light capture efficiency and enhancing 4K image quality through 6K oversampling.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
The EOS C80 features the latest iteration of Canon's renowned Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus, known as Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. This camera is equipped with a back-illuminated stacked sensor that enhances light-capturing efficiency, thereby expanding the area of the sensor available for autofocus. With remarkable speed, accuracy, and an extensive autofocus range, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II employs the EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition (iTR AF X) algorithm, which is based on advanced deep learning technology, to facilitate superior detection of human subjects. Beyond recognizing human eyes, faces, and heads, the camera is capable of identifying and accurately tracking the entire human body. Furthermore, the iTR AF X Animal Detection feature can identify the eyes, face, or full body of an animal, ensuring precise focusing and tracking that remains unaffected by variations in subject size or orientation.
Triple Base ISO
The Canon full-frame 6K back-illuminated stacked sensor features a triple-base ISO, enabling the EOS C80 to produce exceptional images across various lighting environments. With base ISOs set at 800, 3200, and 12,800, users can fully exploit the sensor's dynamic range, whether in well-lit scenarios or challenging low-light situations.
Internal Recording
- The EOS C80 is capable of recording in Cinema RAW Light at resolutions of up to 6K 30P.
- In addition to this, it offers the XF-AVC codec, which allows for 10-bit 4:2:2 recording with oversampling from the 6K sensor. This results in high-quality detail and fluid imagery at frame rates reaching 120P, all without cropping the sensor's image. For capturing slow or fast motion, the EOS C80 supports recording at 4K 120P and 2K 180.
- Furthermore, two new recording codecs have been introduced: XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S. These codecs provide a user-friendly naming system and folder organization while recording in the widely-used MP4 format and maintaining metadata integrity.
- Moreover, the EOS C80 also facilitates 6K/60P HDMI RAW output.
RF Lens Mount
The EOS C80 features an integrated RF lens mount, ensuring compatibility with Canon's range of high-performance RF-mount lenses that are equipped with sophisticated coatings and image stabilization technology. The short flange distance of the RF mount significantly decreases the overall depth of the camera body, contributing to a more streamlined and compact design.
Multiple Interfaces Including 12G-SDI
The EOS C80 features a wide array of interfaces, enhancing its adaptability for various production needs. It stands out with integrated 12G or 3G SDI capabilities and an additional full-sized BNC output for Time Code, facilitating the transfer of uncompressed video signals through a reliable cable connection.
Additional interfaces comprise two three-pin mini-XLR audio inputs (INPUT 1 and INPUT 2), a Microphone terminal (3.5mm stereo mini-jack), a REMOTE terminal (2.5mm stereo mini-mini), and a full-size HDMI interface (HDMI OUT, Type A Terminal).
Ethernet and Wi-Fi Control
The integrated Ethernet port and Wi-Fi functionality facilitate Canon's IP-based remote control XC Protocol. This protocol enhances the usability and remote management of camera settings. Through the XC Protocol, the camera can be operated using Canon’s RC-IP1000 and RC-IP100 controllers (available separately), as well as third-party remote control panels (RCP) that support XC Protocol for remote shading of the camera.
Furthermore, Canon’s Remote Control Camera Application (RCCA) allows for the adjustment of camera settings and the management of multiple cameras simultaneously. The camera is also equipped with SRT protocol, which supports the IP streaming of both video and audio.
Improved Body Design
- The EOS C80 is equipped with dual SD card slots that facilitate simultaneous, relay, and proxy video recording. Additionally, the EOS C80 has the capability to capture JPEG still images.
- The EOS C80 is designed with a compact and lightweight structure, incorporating an ergonomic grip and joystick control for ease of use.
- It is equipped with a Multi-Accessory hot shoe on the upper section and includes a detachable handle along with a microphone holder.
- The LCD screen is designed with a reinforced hinge and offers built-in functionalities such as focus peaking, waveforms, and additional features.
- Engineered specifically for the short flange distance of the EOS C80 RF mount, a slim motorized ND filter unit allows users to swiftly choose from a range of up to 10 stops of neutral density. The ND control buttons located on the right side of the camera facilitate rapid exposure adjustments, enabling operators to preserve the depth of field in their shots.
- Two mini-XLR inputs with phantom power and manual control dials provide professional audio recording options.
- The EOS C80 supports 4-channel audio using dual mini-XLR ports, an internal stereo mic, and a 3.5mm mic input.
- Use the included BP-A30N battery, a BP-A60N battery, or a 24 VDC adapter to power the C80. Older BP-A batteries can also be used but will not power the Multi-Accessory hot shoe.
- Support your C80 with a third-party cage to add a V-mount or Gold mount battery plate to enable longer runtimes.
