The Canon RF 50mm f/1.4 L VCM Lens is a versatile prime lens suitable for both photography and videography, specifically designed for full-frame RF-mount camera systems. Its impressive f/1.4 maximum aperture and 11-blade diaphragm facilitate exceptional performance in low-light environments and create aesthetically pleasing bokeh around subjects. This hybrid lens features a video-optimized Voice Coil Motor (VCM) rear focus system combined with a Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor) to ensure accurate autofocus and quiet operation. Additionally, the lens is equipped with a dedicated manual iris ring and an AF/MF switch, providing users with enhanced control over focus and enabling quick adjustments to settings. As part of the L-series, this prime lens is built for durability and includes a weather-resistant design to safeguard against dust and moisture.
Excellent Image Quality
The RF 50mm f/1.4 L VCM lens delivers exceptional optical performance. Its design incorporates two UD elements and one aspherical element, complemented by Air Sphere Coating (ASC) and Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to minimize ghosting. Additionally, Fluorine coating is applied to both the front and rear lens surfaces to reduce the likelihood of smudges. Furthermore, this lens is equipped with the same dust and water resistance characteristic of all L-series lenses, featuring seals around the control ring, focus ring, zoom ring, operation panel, and lens mount.
VCM Focusing
The RF 50mm f/1.4 L VCM is included in a collection of "hybrid" lenses designed to excel in both video and still photography. A notable enhancement in this model is the revised focus system. It features a Nano USM that manages the floating focus unit, complemented by a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that drives the rear focus unit. These focus mechanisms operate in unison, delivering remarkable speed with minimal noise. It is important to note that the VCM requires power to maintain its position; therefore, when the camera is powered off or the lens is detached, slight movement may be audible and perceptible. This behavior is typical, and the lens is equipped with additional cushioning to mitigate potential damage in such scenarios.
With a minimum focus distance of just 9.4 inches , and an f/1.4 aperture you can capture some really compelling imagery that is unlike anything else.
