Optimized for Photo

This ultra-wide prime lens is suitable for various applications including nature, landscape, architecture, astrophotography, and street photography. It provides an extensive angle of view that facilitates the creation of strong, dynamic compositions with an enhanced perception of space and foreground. The impressively fast f/1.4 maximum aperture allows for effective control over depth of field and significantly enhances low-light performance, making it an excellent choice for astrophotography. The optical design incorporates ultra-low dispersion (UD), fluorite, and Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics (BR) elements, which work together to minimize chromatic aberrations, resulting in remarkable clarity and color fidelity. Additionally, the lens features three Glass Molded Optics (GMO) aspherical elements that enhance sharpness and manage distortion. Coatings such as Super Spectra (SSC), Air Sphere (ASC), and Subwavelength structure (SWC) are applied to reduce flare and ghosting, thereby improving contrast. Furthermore, the rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and rounded out-of-focus rendering.

VCM and Nano USM Autofocus

The focusing system has been meticulously adjusted to accommodate both photographic and videographic tasks, providing an advantageous blend of speed and precision. The Nano Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is employed to manage a floating focusing mechanism, while a Voice Coil Motor (VCM) fine-tunes a rear focusing group; in conjunction, these two systems deliver an optimal combination of rapidity and silent operation, which is particularly advantageous for video recording. In contrast to the ultra-wide field of view, this lens also performs exceptionally well with close-up subjects, boasting a minimum focusing distance of 9.4 inches and a maximum magnification of 0.11x. The floating focus design further contributes to the preservation of consistent image quality across the entire focusing range. An AF/MF switch and full-time manual focus override are included for intuitive focus control when necessary.

Design Details

• Although this 14mm f/1.4 is a fast ultra-wide lens, it is still quite compact and lightweight for routine use. Its design and dimensions are consistent with the other Hybrid lenses, making it suitable for daily use across various shooting scenarios.
  
  
• While featuring the same 3"-diameter as other Hybrid lenses, and a similar length (4.4") and weight (1.3 lb), this lens is physically distinct due to the bulbous front element and integrated lens hood.
