X-Trans 5 BSI Sensor

The X-H2 is an excellent choice for photographers specializing in architecture, travel, and landscapes. It features a 40MP X-Trans 5 HR sensor in APS-C format, which is backside-illuminated, enhancing both resolution and low-light capabilities compared to earlier models. As an X-Trans sensor, it incorporates a distinctive color filter array that effectively reduces moiré and enhances natural color reproduction. Additionally, the BSI architecture minimizes noise while improving tonal quality and clarity. Furthermore, this design significantly mitigates rolling shutter effects and other motion distortions, making it ideal for high-speed photography and videography. The impressive resolution supports 2x digital zoom and offers up to 13 stops of dynamic range.

X-Processor 5

The newly designed sensor is paired with an advanced engine known as the X-Processor 5, which employs 64-bit processing to deliver speeds that are three times faster for both video and photography tasks when compared to the X-T4. In terms of video capabilities, this allows for recording at bit rates reaching up to 720 mb/s. For still photography, the rapid processing facilitates quicker shooting, making it ideal for capturing moving subjects. Utilizing the electronic shutter, it is possible to shoot at speeds of up to 20 frames per second, with a buffer that accommodates 202 consecutive uncompressed raw frames. When using the mechanical shutter, shooting speeds can reach up to 15 frames per second, with the capacity to capture over 1000 raw frames in a single burst.

This processing power enhances both video and still photography applications, significantly benefiting the advanced AI-driven autofocus system, achieving a dynamic range of 14 stops, and providing an extended sensitivity range from ISO 125 to 12800.

Powerful Video Capabilities

4K 60p and 8K 30p Internal Recording

While primarily designed for photography, the X-H2 boasts a remarkable video system that supports 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording in 8K at 30 frames per second, as well as DCI/UHD 4K at rates of up to 60 frames per second and Full HD at an impressive 240 frames per second. It accommodates a range of codecs, including H.265 and three variations of ProRes: the high-bitrate 422 HQ, the standard 422, and the more compressed 422 LT. Furthermore, it allows for continuous recording durations of up to 160 minutes across all frame rates and resolutions, which can be extended to 240 minutes with the addition of an external clip-on fan.

External Raw Recording

The full-size HDMI port enables the recording of 12-bit raw video when connected to a compatible external recorder. It supports both ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW formats, allowing for the use of F-Log or F-Log 2 profiles, with the capability to operate at resolutions reaching the open-gate 8K.

Improved Autofocus and Image Stabilization

Hybrid AF with Deep Learning AI

Enhanced processing capabilities have resulted in a significantly faster and more intelligent autofocus performance. This hybrid focusing system incorporates 425 phase-detection points and is now capable of functioning effectively in low-light conditions, with sensitivity down to -7 EV. Furthermore, supported by deep learning, an AI adaptive algorithm enables this focusing system to automatically identify and track a diverse range of subject types more effectively.

Pixel Shift Multishot

Pixel Shift Multishot captures a series of exposures in quick succession, with each exposure shifting the image sensor by half a pixel. This technique allows the subject to be recorded on various sections of the image sensor, ultimately producing a single 160-Megapixel image through the use of Pixel Shift Combiner software.

In-Body Image Stabilization

The integrated 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization significantly reduces the effects of camera shake by as much as 7 stops. This stabilization system is compatible with the majority of X Series lenses, including those without built-in stabilization, enhancing performance at slower shutter speeds and in challenging lighting environments. Furthermore, digital image stabilization can be employed during video capture to provide additional stability, particularly when shooting without a tripod.

Practical and Durable Design

The large OLED electronic viewfinder boasts an impressive resolution of 5.76 million dots and a magnification of 0.8x, ensuring bright, clear, and detailed viewing at eye level. The rear 3.0-inch LCD features a high resolution of 1.62 million dots and incorporates a touchscreen interface for user-friendly operation. Its vari-angle design allows the screen to be extended to the side, tilted both upwards and downwards, and securely closed against the body for protection. A 1.28-inch monochrome LCD screen located on the top plate provides a straightforward method for quickly checking shooting settings. 

The device is equipped with dual memory card slots, including one CFexpress Type B slot and one SD UHS-II slot, offering flexibility in file storage. The CFexpress Type B slot is recommended for high-bitrate video recording and rapid continuous shooting, while the SD slot serves as a practical option for backups or less speed-sensitive photography. 

The NP-W235 battery delivers approximately 720 frames per charge when utilizing the EVF in Economy Mode, or around 580 frames in Normal Mode
