The Overlander offers turn-by-turn road directions like most Garmin navigators. When you leave the road, the unit provides topographical maps for off-grid guidance, including public land boundaries and 4x4 roads. Integrated pitch and roll sensors tell you if the angle of the terrain is safe for your vehicle and complement the built-in compass, altimeter, and barometer. You can input your vehicle's height, length, and weight to help pick a route that's appropriate. The Overlander is compatible with Garmin's in-Reach satellite communicator, so you can be in touch with the civilized world if need be, and the Ultimate Public Campgrounds feature points the way to the best-established, wild, and dispersed campsites.

Turn-by-turn highway directions and topo maps with 4x4 roads and public land boundaries are displayed on the 7" color touchscreen. You can use Garmin Explore to download more maps and USGS quad sheets and store them on 64GB of internal memory. GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite navigation keep track of your position and your destination. Pitch and roll gauges let you know whether slopes are safe to drive up, down, or across. You can customize routes based on your vehicle's height, weight, and length. You can add a Garmin back-up camera, too. iOverlander points of interest and Ultimate Public Campgrounds show best-established, wild, and dispersed campsites with no need for a cell signal.
