The SL2-S seamlessly integrates Leica's classic design with modern hybrid functionality, presenting a comprehensive full-frame mirrorless camera that excels in both photography and videography. At its core is Leica's inaugural BSI CMOS sensor, boasting a resolution of 24.6MP, which facilitates DCI/UHD 4K 10-bit video recording, a wide sensitivity range from ISO 50 to 100,000, and exceptional image quality with minimal noise. This sensor is enhanced by the advanced Maestro III image processor, ensuring rapid performance and adaptability across the camera system. It supports continuous full-resolution DNG shooting at rates of up to 25 fps, alongside 4K video recording at 60p and Full HD at 180 fps. 

To further support its hybrid functionality, Leica has introduced distinct Photo and Video menu systems, allowing for more intuitive navigation and control of settings in each mode. A 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization system is also included, effectively reducing camera shake for clearer handheld images. The sensor features a Leica Object Detection AF system, which offers 225 selectable AF areas for swift and precise focusing. In addition to its enhanced imaging capabilities, the SL2-S is constructed with a robust, weather-sealed body that includes a 5.76m-dot EyeRes OLED electronic viewfinder and a sizable 3.2" 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD. A top status LCD provides quick access to shooting settings, while dual UHS-II-compatible SD memory card slots enhance file-saving options. Furthermore, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities work in tandem with the Leica FOTOs app, enabling wireless file transfers and remote control of the camera.

24.6MP Full-Frame BSI CMOS Sensor and Maestro III Processor

The SL2-S is equipped with a highly adaptable full-frame 24.6MP BSI CMOS sensor, providing exceptional imaging capabilities for both photography and videography. Paired with the Maestro III image processor, it guarantees rapid performance and a broad ISO sensitivity range of 50-100,000. The BSI architecture of the sensor enhances the clarity and smoothness of color and tonal reproduction while minimizing noise at elevated ISO levels. Furthermore, the absence of a low-pass filter in the sensor's design ensures maximum sharpness and resolution. In addition to outstanding image quality, the processing capabilities allow for swift continuous shooting at rates of up to 25 frames per second with an electronic shutter or 9 frames per second with a mechanical shutter, supported by a 4GB buffer that facilitates extensive burst shooting of full-resolution DNG or JPEG files.

DCI/UHD 4K 10-Bit Video Recording

The SL2-S is a highly proficient video camera that provides both DCI and UHD 4K recording capabilities at frame rates of up to 60p, utilizing either the full-frame sensor or an APS-C/Super 35mm crop. It supports internal 10-bit 4:2:2 recording for frame rates up to 30p, while 60p recording is available in 8-bit 4:2:0. When connected externally through the full-size HDMI port, 10-bit output is accessible at all frame rates for both DCI and UHD 4K formats. Furthermore, Full HD recording is supported with high-speed frame rates reaching up to 180 fps for slow-motion effects. Notably, there are no recording limits imposed at any resolution or frame rate, facilitating prolonged recording sessions.

In addition to its impressive video capabilities, the camera features a dedicated Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) mode and an L-Log gamma profile, which enhance in-camera HDR output and provide expanded highlight and shadow detail, offering greater flexibility for color grading in post-production. Integrated viewing LUTs are included to enhance color control and precision. To prevent data loss, video recording can be segmented into 1-minute intervals, and a color bar is available for accurate color grading and sound management during post-production. Moreover, the camera supports audio quality enhancement through dedicated 3.5mm jacks for external microphones and headphones. Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization

To attain the highest level of sharpness in handheld photography, the 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization effectively counteracts various types of movement, resulting in sharper and clearer images.

Incorporating sensor-shift stabilization technology, the SL2-S is equipped with a Multishot mode that captures and combines eight distinct exposures to generate a single 96MP file. This mode is ideal for static subjects and tripod use, yielding images that are significantly more detailed and color-accurate than those produced from a single exposure, achieving a resolution of 12000 x 8000 pixels.

Object Detection Autofocus System

To enhance autofocus efficiency, the Leica Object Detection AF system rapidly determines the distance to subjects and modifies the focus position, with communication between the sensor and lens occurring at speeds of up to 480 frames per second. This contrast-detection focusing technique is advantageous for both still photography and video recording, as well as for subject tracking through the Body Detection mode. Additionally, it includes 225 selectable autofocus areas, granting superior control over the camera's focus, while the Automatic Follow Focus feature provides three focus points for seamless focus transitions during video capture.

Body Design

• Used in conjunction with other members of the L-Mount Alliance, the L lens mount is a versatile interface with a mount diameter of 51.6mm and a flange distance of 20mm for working with a broad range of optics.
  
  
• The impressive EyeRes EVF is a high-resolution 5.76m-dot OLED finder offering a clear 0.78x configurable viewing magnification along with a smooth 120 fps refresh rate and 0.005 sec lag.
  
  
• Large 3.2" 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD is a bright, clear means for live view shooting as well as playback and menu navigation. This screen also uses Gorilla Glass for a highly durable design.
