To enhance the versatility of the "M" system in challenging lighting conditions, the renowned Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2.0 Aspherical Lens (6-bit, manual focus) boasts a focal length that surpasses others in the Leica Summicron high-speed lens lineup. Through intricate optical calculations, the incorporation of specialized optical glass types, and the addition of an aspherical lens element, this lens achieves exceptional performance that rivals the impressive capabilities of the Elmarit-M 28 f/2.8. Notably, this lens is one stop faster than the 28 f/2.8, yet the designers have remarkably maintained dimensions and weight that are nearly identical to its predecessor. It delivers exceptional image quality throughout the entire frame, with high resolving power and brilliance even at its maximum aperture.
This lens has been enhanced with "6-bit" coding, enabling the digital M camera to optically read this information and recognize the specific lens in use. Consequently, the camera can optionally implement a "final stage" software-based vignetting correction (for RAW images, the lens information is recorded without any alterations).
- Compact high-performance wide angle lens
- Aspheric element
- Includes "6-bit code" which allows the digital M8 camera to identify which lens is being used, and also to store this information in image metadata
