Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ Lens | Nikon Z
For nearly a hundred years, professional cinematographers have relied on Nikon lenses to realize their artistic aspirations. The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ continues this tradition, offering remarkable versatility for contemporary filmmakers. With outstanding optical performance and power zoom capabilities across a range of crucial focal lengths, the full-frame NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ Lens from Nikon serves as a multifaceted tool, well-suited for corporate videos, documentaries, live events, weddings, and various other applications.
Nikon's First FX Power Zoom
This lens marks Nikon's inaugural FX-format power zoom lens and is also the first NIKKOR Z lens equipped with a zoom lever. This feature enables videographers to perform smooth zoom transitions and choose from a range of up to eleven distinct zoom speeds. The power zoom capability facilitates consistent speed during zooming, offering multiple operational options, including remote control via a computer, smartphone, or tablet through the NX Tether software, as well as the SnapBridge or NX Field applications. Additionally, remote control functionality can be achieved using the optional MC-N10 video grip.
Hi-Res Zoom Compatibility
When used with the Nikon Z9, Hi-Res Zoom can be used, allowing an angle of view equivalent to that of the 270mm focal length with 4K video recording.
Extensive Image Quality Control
The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is equipped with a stepping motor (STM) that facilitates rapid and silent autofocus, making it particularly suitable for dynamic, documentary-style photography. Its linear focus support enables users to finely tune the rotation of the focus or control ring, allowing for accurate focus adjustments. The lens effectively minimizes focus breathing, ensuring that the angle of view and composition remain consistent even during significant focus shifts. Additionally, the generously sized, ergonomically designed focus ring enhances manual focus precision, while the textured focus and zoom rings are fully compatible with follow-focus systems.
Design and Construction
Optical Design
The lens is designed with a compact and lightweight structure for its category, weighing a balanced 2.66 lb. This design, combined with an internal focusing mechanism, enhances its compatibility with gimbals and various support systems. Inside, the lens incorporates three extra-low dispersion elements and four aspherical elements, which effectively minimize chromatic aberrations and enhance image sharpness. Additionally, the lens features Nikon's Meso Amorphous Coat, recognized as the brand's most advanced antireflection technology, which mitigates ghosting and flare from light sources in any direction. The constant f/4 maximum aperture facilitates low depth-of-field effects and subject isolation, while the minimum close-focusing distances of 13.4" at the wide end and 22.4" at the telephoto end enable striking close-up shots and showcase Nikon's signature bokeh.
Build and Other Benefits
A rectangular lens hood is included to minimize the intrusion of unwanted light that can lead to flare, while a filter adjustment window facilitates the easy swapping of circular polarizing and variable ND filters without the need to detach the hood. The front lens element is treated with a fluorine coating, effectively repelling dust, oil, and water, which enhances its resistance to dust and moisture. L-Fn buttons, which can be programmed for functions such as zoom speed, are strategically located on the side and top of the lens, ensuring seamless operation even when capturing images in a vertical position. Additionally, the angle and direction of the zoom ring's rotation can be customized for further refinement. The lens also supports a linear MF drive, allowing for smooth focusing. Notably, it features a distinctive yellow video ring from Nikon around its mount, complemented by unique lettering.
