The OM-1, produced by OM SYSTEM, stands at the intersection of image quality, portability, speed, and reliability, making it a premier mirrorless camera designed for adventurous pursuits. Featuring a versatile Micro Four Thirds platform, the OM-1 combines rapid and agile still photography capabilities with proficient 4K video recording, enhanced by distinctive computational imaging technologies and a robust, trustworthy physical construction.

Micro Four Thirds BSI Live MOS Sensor

The newly developed 20.4MP Micro Four Thirds Live MOS sensor incorporates a stacked BSI architecture, which enhances readout speeds, reduces noise levels, and provides a broader dynamic range compared to earlier models. This innovative sensor configuration enhances noise performance by two stops and dynamic range by one stop, resulting in superior image quality, particularly at elevated ISO settings.

TruePic X Processor

In comparison to earlier generations of processors, the TruePic X delivers processing speeds that are three times faster, along with a sensor readout rate of 120 frames per second, facilitating quicker and more responsive shooting experiences. This processor enhances a broad ISO range and enables rapid continuous shooting rates: it features a native sensitivity range from ISO 200 to 25600, which can be expanded to ISO 80 to 102400. Continuous shooting is achievable at a rate of 10 frames per second with full-time autofocus and auto-exposure, supported by a buffer that accommodates 169 raw frames when utilizing a mechanical shutter. When employing a silent electronic shutter, shooting speeds can reach 20 frames per second with full-time autofocus and auto-exposure, along with a buffer of 108 raw frames. The SH1 and SH2 modes provide blackout-free high-speed shooting, allowing for rates of up to 120 frames per second without autofocus and auto-exposure in SH1, and 50 frames per second with autofocus and auto-exposure in SH2. The Pro Capture mode initiates recording prior to the shutter release; it can record at 120 frames per second with fixed focus or 50 frames per second with continuous autofocus. This mode starts recording as soon as the shutter button is half-pressed and ceases once the button is fully pressed, allowing for the capture of up to 70 additional frames, thus serving as a safeguard for moments when action occurs just before the shutter is activated.

Cross Quad Pixel AF and AI Detection

The innovative design of the on-sensor phase-detection autofocus (AF) incorporates a Cross Quad Pixel system, which divides each pixel into four sub-pixels. This configuration enhances cross-sensor performance, particularly in challenging lighting situations. The autofocus system comprises 1053 distinct points that comprehensively cover the sensor and operate at speeds of up to 120 frames per second, accommodating nearly all recording techniques.

Leveraging the Cross Quad Pixel AF architecture, the sensor's color and contrast data can be utilized to generate a precise depth map of the image, thereby improving subject detection and tracking accuracy. Through the application of artificial intelligence, this autofocus system is capable of automatically recognizing various subject types, including vehicles such as cars and motorcycles, aircraft like airplanes and helicopters, as well as trains, birds, dogs, cats, and humans, including their faces and eyes. Furthermore, advancements in processing have enhanced the focusing performance, making it twice as accurate and three times faster compared to previous versions of this system.

5-Axis Image Stabilization

The in-body 5-axis image stabilization system effectively counteracts up to 8 stops of camera shake, enabling the use of considerably longer shutter speeds during handheld shooting. This sophisticated sensor-shift mechanism alone mitigates 7 stops of shake, with an extra stop available when compatible IS-enabled lenses are utilized.

Handheld Assist leverages this stabilization technology to enhance framing stability, which proves particularly beneficial when employing longer focal length lenses. Furthermore, the in-body image stabilization enhances various shooting modes and camera functionalities, such as High Res Shot modes, Handheld Live Composite, and an advanced dust reduction system.

Creative Shooting Modes

  • The High Resolution Shot feature, enhanced by its innovative stacked sensor architecture, advanced processing capabilities, and effective image stabilization, allows for the combination of 12 individual images into a single high-resolution frame within a mere 5 seconds. The Tripod High Resolution Shot mode generates an 80MP raw file, while the Handheld High Resolution Shot mode produces a 50MP raw file. Both modes provide up to 2 stops of noise reduction and enhanced color fidelity.

  • The Live ND function now accommodates up to ND64 (6-stop), effectively mimicking the characteristics of an optical neutral density filter to facilitate long exposure and slow shutter speed effects.

  • Live Composite mode is ideal for long exposure photography, nighttime captures, and light painting techniques. This distinctive mode incrementally accumulates exposure over time, ensuring that key elements in the frame are not overexposed. It selectively records only newly identified light sources and allows for real-time monitoring as the image evolves. Additionally, a Handheld Live Composite mode is also available.

  • Focus Stacking mode automatically captures 15 sequential images, slightly adjusting the focus plane between each shot, and subsequently merges these exposures into a single image that showcases an extended depth of field.

DCI/UHD 4K Video Recording

The device supports DCI/UHD 4K video recording at frame rates of up to 60p, utilizing 10-bit 4:2:0 sampling. Additionally, it is capable of Full HD recording at high-speed rates reaching 240 fps, enabling slow-motion playback. For those utilizing an optional compatible external recorder, such as the Atomos Ninja V or Ninja V+, 12-bit raw output can be accessed through the micro-HDMI port. The HLG picture mode facilitates in-camera HDR recording, while the OM-Log gamma provides an expanded color grading range for post-production adjustments. Furthermore, in-camera time-lapse production is achievable at UHD 4K, with frame rates ranging from 5 fps to 30 fps. The inclusion of both 3.5mm microphone and headphone ports enhances audio recording control and quality.

EVF and LCD

  • The electronic viewfinder is equipped with a 5.76 million-dot OLED display, providing a luminous and clear option for monitoring at eye level. It boasts a magnification equivalent to 0.83x, a 21mm eye relief, and a refresh rate of 120 frames per second, ensuring lifelike motion representation.

  • The 3.0-inch LCD touchscreen, with a resolution of 1.62 million dots, incorporates a vari-angle design that allows for a 270° swivel, facilitating shooting from elevated, lowered, and front-facing perspectives

Durable, Weather-Sealed Build

  • Lightweight, durable magnesium alloy body design is dust- and splash-resistant with an IP53 rating for ensured use in trying weather conditions.

  • Tough design is also freezeproof-tested for reliable use in temperatures down to 14°F.

  • Durable shutter design is rated for 400,000 shutter actuations.

Practical and Intuitive Handling

The OM-1, equipped with the new BLX-1 battery, boasts a capacity of 520 shots per charge. It supports in-body battery charging through the USB Type-C port, and can also be powered by a USB-connected power bank. The camera features dual UHS-II SD memory card slots, providing versatile options for file storage, including in-camera backups, file type segregation, or simply additional memory for overflow. The updated menu layout enhances the user experience by facilitating the location of various settings, confirming selections, and clarifying the reasons behind grayed-out options. Additionally, the camera includes separate AEL and AF-ON buttons, allowing for more straightforward control over distinct functions, with both buttons customizable for adjusting different settings. Furthermore, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity (5 and 2.4GHz) enable wireless file transfers and remote camera control via the OI.Share application for mobile devices.
