The PROMASTER 4021 Column Tilt Adapter enhances the functionality of your XC-M 522 aluminum or XC-M 522C carbon fiber tripod by allowing its center column to tilt 180° (90° upwards and 90° downwards). This adapter effectively transforms your XC-M's center column into a versatile, adjustable boom.
To install, simply unscrew the weight hook from the center column, loosen the twist lock on the center column, and slide it out of the tripod. Then, replace it with the 4021 Column Tilt Adapter, secure the twist lock, and open the flip lock on the Column Tilt Adapter. Insert the center column and close the flip lock. This conversion can be completed in under 30 seconds. It is as straightforward as that!
After converting your XC-M 522, you can reattach the weight hook to the bottom of the adapter and add weight for enhanced stability. Additionally, a second retractable weight hook is provided with this adapter, which can be utilized at the end of the boom (the end of the center column) to counterbalance your camera.
To operate the boom, loosen the main knob on the 4021 Adapter while holding your camera, then tilt the assembly to your desired position before tightening the knob. To rotate the boom, loosen the twist lock on the tripod's yoke and spin the adapter. To extend or retract the boom, use the twist lock on the column to adjust its upper stage. This adapter features several machined teeth within its joint, providing it with a significant amount of holding power in various tilt positions. Ensure that you tighten the main knob before releasing your camera to avoid any risk of it falling. The 4021 Column Tilt Adapter can be permanently installed and used on your XC-M 522 if desired, as it can achieve the same vertical position as the standard center column when necessary.
In all honesty, this is an exceptionally cool accessory. It is ideal for macro photography, allowing you to extend your camera over a tabletop or a flowing creek. Moreover, it tends to make other tripods envious.
