The Ricoh GR IIIx has recently been enhanced with a variety of features, delivering exceptional image quality, rapid response times, and remarkable portability. It is equipped with a newly engineered 26.1mm lens, which offers a 40mm equivalent angle of view in the 35mm format. This distinctive focal length closely resembles the effective field of view of the human eye, producing images that present a unique perspective ideal for street photography.
This camera boasts a substantial 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor paired with the GR Engine 6, which maximizes its image resolution capabilities. Additionally, it features a high-speed hybrid autofocus system, integrated shake reduction, and an array of new and improved post-processing functions that allow for in-camera editing of captured images. With a remarkably short start-up time of approximately 0.8 seconds, it facilitates swift and responsive shooting. The 3" 1.037m-dot LCD screen enables effective image composition, playback, and menu navigation. Furthermore, the built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionalities allow for seamless pairing with mobile devices, enabling quick and wireless file transfers to smartphones or tablets.
High-Resolution GR Lens
The newly engineered 26.1mm GR lens offers a 40mm standard angle of view in the 35mm format, producing images that exhibit a natural perspective and an authentic sense of depth, ideal for a distinctive approach to street photography. The lens construction incorporates high-refractive index low-dispersion glass and aspherical high-precision molded glass elements, strategically arranged to minimize optical distortion and chromatic aberration, thus ensuring exceptional sharpness. Additionally, an internal two-stop effective (ND 0.6) filter is included, allowing for either extended shutter speeds or the use of wider aperture settings, while the nine-blade diaphragm enhances the quality of bokeh.
24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and GR Engine 6
The latest 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor, in conjunction with the new GR Engine 6, delivers high-resolution 14-bit DNG or JPEG images characterized by remarkable tonality, authentic color reproduction, and exceptional sensitivity ranging from ISO 100 to 102400. Beyond still photography, the GR IIIx also offers the capability to record Full HD 1080 video at frame rates of 60p, 30p, and 24p.
Hybrid AF System
The hybrid autofocus system integrates a contrast-based autofocus mechanism with a phase-detection autofocus mechanism, facilitating rapid focusing performance. In autofocus mode, this system accurately identifies the subject's face or eye, achieves focus, and displays the focused position on the LCD screen through the autofocus frame. When multiple faces are detected, the camera automatically differentiates the primary subject from others and highlights this distinction on the focus frame.
Shake Reduction System
Shake Reduction (SR) effectively reduces camera shake across three axes—yaw, pitch, and roll—offering up to 4 stops of compensation. This technology ensures the production of clear and sharp images, even during rapid snapshots or in difficult low-light environments.
Compact and Lightweight Design
The GR IIIx is engineered to be highly compact, practical, and easy to transport. Its outer frame is constructed from a robust magnesium alloy, enhancing its durability during transport or storage. The camera boasts a variety of user-friendly features, such as a rapid start-up time of around 0.8 seconds, control dials strategically located adjacent to the four-way controller, and seamless touch-screen functionality. These attributes significantly improve usability, enabling the user to quickly respond to unique, fleeting moments.
HD LCD Monitor with Touch-Screen Operation
A 3-inch high-definition LCD monitor featuring touch-screen functionality enables quick and intuitive management of multiple camera operations, including autofocus frame adjustment, menu navigation, and image advancement or magnification during playback. The outdoor view mode facilitates immediate brightness adjustments, enhancing visibility in challenging lighting environments.
Image Control and Visual Effects
The GR IIIx is equipped with a creative image control feature that incorporates effect modes into standard image setting procedures. With 11 fundamental image control modes available, users can effortlessly modify a range of parameters, including hue, saturation, key, contrast, and graininess, to achieve their preferred levels. Additionally, a collection of customized parameters can be saved and added to the image control function menu for future use.
Advanced Image Editing
The GR IIIx features in-camera RAW editing capabilities, allowing users to modify captured images by adjusting parameters such as recording size, aspect ratio, white balance, and exposure compensation, all without requiring a computer. Additionally, the camera enables the retention of these adjusted parameters even after the initial development of the RAW data, facilitating precise readjustments of the already processed image.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
The GR IIIx is equipped with wireless capabilities that facilitate seamless pairing with mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. By downloading the specialized Image Sync application, users can transfer images taken with the camera to their mobile devices, view a live feed on the screen, adjust various settings remotely, trigger the shutter from afar, and effortlessly share images on multiple social media platforms. Additionally, users can transmit location data from their mobile devices to the camera, which can be embedded in the images captured. An automatic resizing feature is also available, which reduces the image size prior to transmission to a mobile device.
