RODE RODECaster Video All-in-One Production Console

The RODECaster Video is engineered to perform exceptionally across a diverse range of production environments, including social media, streaming, podcasting, and live events. It integrates advanced HD video switching capabilities with the renowned studio-quality audio management found in earlier RODECaster models. This console provides seamless control over video and audio inputs through its user-friendly onboard controls, a 2-inch touchscreen display, and a rotary encoder. It features multiple connectivity options, such as HDMI and USB-C ports, which support UVC video sources alongside both analog and digital audio inputs. The RODECaster Video can accommodate up to 20 audio sources or nine stereo channels, utilizing both wired and wireless connections. Additionally, it can be incorporated into an existing RODE audio setup via the USB-C audio ports or through RODE Central software for enhanced device configuration.

Video Interface

The RODECaster Video is equipped with nine mix-effect layers that can be displayed simultaneously in both preview and program views. It includes two downstream keyers for toggling overlays and logos, two chroma-keyers for switching between various backgrounds, and two media players capable of playing MP4 videos, PNG/JPG images, or WAV audio files from an inserted microSD card. The multiview feature enables users to monitor the program and preview feeds, all live inputs along with scene and media thumbnails, the audio mixer and channel status, as well as recording, network, and storage status, in addition to runtime, date, and time information. The non-destructive setup allows for live adjustments or the configuration of saved scenes without disrupting the production flow.

Users can switch between six 1080p60 video sources—comprising four HDMI and two USB-C inputs—and create up to seven intricate scenes that incorporate multiple layers of video, media, and graphics. These scenes can be saved and easily recalled with a single button press. The two HDMI outputs can be configured to connect to displays, allowing for the viewing of preview, program, and multiview feeds. The program feed provides a view of what is being streamed or recorded, while the preview feed allows for the examination of inputs, scenes, graphics, or media sources prior to going live.

Audio Sources

The console features two studio-grade combo XLR-1/4" jacks, which are outfitted with low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamps, ensuring exceptional audio quality for XLR microphones and instruments. Digital USB-C ports facilitate connections to RODE USB microphones, the RODECaster Pro II, or Duo Audio Production Studios. Additional USB-C ports enable 2-in/2-out multichannel outputs, mix-minus functionality, and MFi protocols. The internal wireless receivers allow for the connection of RODE series IV wireless microphones, such as the Wireless GO II and Wireless PRO, to the console.

The RODECaster Video is enhanced with Aphex VoxLab audio processing, which includes EQ, compressor, noise gate, high-pass filter, de-esser, Aural Exciter, Big Bottom, and Compellor effects for each channel. The integrated preamps deliver up to 75 dB of input gain with an equivalent input noise of -131.5 dBV. Users can mix and process audio directly on the device using the touchscreen and rotary encoder, or through the software mixer available in RODE Central.

Intuitive Controls

The RODECaster Video emphasizes scene-based switching through an intuitive control interface. This design enables users to swiftly access essential tools for creating engaging content without navigating through complex settings. The device's front panel features a diverse array of controls tailored to specific functionalities. The automatic chroma keying feature simplifies the process of replacing backgrounds with media or live video feeds. Users can apply transparency to incorporate inputs into scenes or alongside various backgrounds, with options for both blue and green screens, enhanced by advanced controls. Additionally, seven media buttons facilitate the loading of video clips, images, and audio onto a microSD card for production purposes. Two internal video players enable seamless transitions between scenes, while seven graphic buttons allow for the loading of images with transparency, enabling dynamic triggering of graphics to overlay on inputs or scenes.

Inspect Button

The Inspect feature, when activated, provides a comprehensive overview of the video input assigned to it, along with details regarding media, graphics, and layout on the integrated screen. You can preview the button in your Multiview while retaining the capability to swiftly alternate between sources.

Intelligent Auto-Switching

The intelligent auto-switching feature of the RODECaster Video facilitates smooth and innovative hands-free transitions between various video sources. It enables the connection of any audio input to any video source, utilizing intelligent level detection to automatically initiate switching when the talent is speaking, thereby maintaining the flow of conversation. The system's switching priorities and screen time algorithms create a seamless experience, mimicking the actions of a producer or technical director managing the production.

Intuitive Streaming and Recording

Stream at speeds of up to 100 Mb/s directly using RTMP to prominent platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook Live through an integrated Wi-Fi 6 or Ethernet connection. The multiview feature provides real-time signal health reporting. Additionally, you can record directly to an external USB storage device, with the option for isolated (ISO) recording to enhance postproduction workflows. Your program feed can be recorded as an H.264/AVC MP4 file, complete with an embedded AAC stereo mix. Furthermore, multiple audio tracks can be captured as nine separate stereo WAV files.

RODE Central and Custom Scene Builder

Utilize the RODE Central companion software when linked to a computer to modify the more sophisticated features of the RODECaster Video. You can create scenes using a remote control, set up automatic switching based on audio inputs, mix audio, and configure streaming settings and profiles, in addition to adjusting advanced settings and customizations. The software is compatible with both macOS and Windows operating systems.

The scene builder within RODE Central enables you to design a fully personalized scene from the ground up. You can choose a RODE preset that includes default layouts and themes for your keying backgrounds or video borders. A live RTMP feed will refresh to display your modifications in real-time.
