Robust & Lightweight Aluminum Body
The use of die-cast aluminum for the front and back of the body contributes to its durability and effective heat dissipation, all while maintaining a lightweight structure.
Large Heat Sink
A large heat sink, modeled after those found in professional cinema cameras, is strategically positioned between the LCD and the camera body. When paired with a heat dissipation coating on the exterior, the Sigma fp ensures efficient heat management. This design effectively mitigates the risk of overheating during extended usage or in elevated temperature conditions.
Splash and Dustproof Structure
The Sigma fp features a comprehensive splash and dustproof seal that encompasses 42 points across its body. When paired with a compatible splash and dustproof lens, the Sigma fp is well-equipped to perform in adverse environments such as rain, sandstorms, and other demanding conditions.
Same Screw Threads for Strap Fittings and Tripod
The Sigma fp is equipped with 1/4"-20 threaded mounts located on both sides of the body for the strap holder and for tripod attachment. This design offers enhanced versatility in camera usage, allowing for tripod mounting in portrait orientation with the fixing detached, as well as the option to attach a strap for portrait use by securing the fixing into the base's threaded hole.
Full-Time Electronic Shutter
Mechanical shutters present several drawbacks, including shutter shock, noise, and lag. The Sigma fp has been engineered to mitigate these issues, aiming to create a versatile system suitable for various shooting environments. This includes scenarios that demand utmost precision, where even the slightest movement must be avoided; capturing scenes without disturbing their natural atmosphere; and ensuring quick responsiveness to prevent missed opportunities. Such capabilities will expand the possibilities for video production. Additionally, the elimination of a mechanical shutter contributes to a more streamlined camera design, enhancing its overall reliability.
"Teal and Orange" Color Mode
Color grading refers to the technique of modifying the colors in a video, serving as a crucial element in the filmmaking process that significantly influences the overall "mood" of a film or similar projects. A popular color grading style prevalent in Hollywood productions has led to the development of a new color mode in the Sigma fp, known as "Teal and Orange." This mode focuses on establishing a stark contrast between the warm orange hues associated with human skin tones and the cool teals (cyan blue) that complement them, resulting in visuals that are both strikingly vibrant and profoundly dramatic. It is applicable in both Still mode and Cine mode.
Fill Light
The Fill Light feature, which was previously exclusive to Sigma Photo Pro, Sigma's own image processing software, has now been integrated into the Sigma fp camera. This functionality enables users to enhance the brightness of an image by introducing additional light energy into the shadow areas, while maintaining the exposure levels of the highlights. As a result, photographers gain improved control over the image quality, particularly in challenging areas that are difficult to manage with standard exposure adjustments. Furthermore, the adjustment range has been increased from ±2.0 to ±5.0, allowing for even more precise brightness modifications.
Tone Control & Color Mode
The Tone Control menu has been enhanced to include a manual setting option alongside the two automatic settings (Strong/Mild) that were present in earlier models. This new feature empowers users to independently modify the tone curve. Furthermore, the Sigma fp incorporates an "effect" slider within its color mode menu, which allows users to adjust the intensity of an effect across 11 levels, ranging from -5 to 5, facilitating precise adjustments to the color mode. Additionally, the presence of "TONE" and "COLOR" buttons provides users with immediate access to the tone control and color mode menus. With these advanced features and a diverse array of operational elements, the Sigma fp simplifies the process of capturing detailed images, whether still or in video format, directly within the camera.
HDR Shooting
The HDR shooting utilizes an electronic shutter to capture several images with varying exposures simultaneously (three frames for still photography and two frames for video). These images can subsequently be combined into a single photograph or video, resulting in an enhanced dynamic range that is unattainable through standard shooting methods.
Cinemagraph
The Sigma fp is equipped with a feature that allows for the creation of "Cinemagraphs," which are animated GIFs that blend elements of still photography and video. This capability enables the Sigma fp to produce distinctive visuals, where certain sections of a static image continue to move, all accomplished within the camera itself.
Face/Eye Detection AF
The Face/Eye Detection AF feature enables the Sigma fp to automatically focus on the eyes of a human subject. This function ensures that the model's eyes are brought into sharp focus quickly and accurately, even when capturing portraits with a wide-aperture lens that has a shallow depth of field.
Focus Peaking
The focus peaking feature emphasizes the contours of the elements within a scene that are in sharp focus, using a specific color for distinction. This function is intended to assist users in manually adjusting the lens for optimal focus.
L-Mount
The L-Mount is specifically designed for mirrorless cameras, featuring a short flange focal length, a wide diameter, and enhanced durability. The Sigma fp, being an L-Mount camera, is compatible with a range of L-Mount lenses available from Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma.
