The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN is a refined portrait-length lens tailored for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. As part of the Art series, it boasts an enhanced optical design, a streamlined profile, and a luminous aperture. This lens is engineered to deliver exceptional sharpness and detail on ultra-high resolution sensors, ensuring that photographers achieve the superior quality essential for portrait photography.
This lens is designed to work with In-Camera Aberration Correction. This feature enables the camera to make adjustments for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, distortion, and additional factors, thereby improving overall image quality (available exclusively on compatible cameras).
Sigma's Art Line
This lens, part of Sigma's Art line within the Global Vision series, is engineered to deliver exceptional optical performance, making it particularly suitable for creative and artistic endeavors. It is a portrait-length lens designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, but it is also compatible with APS-C models, providing a focal length equivalent to 127.5mm. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is advantageous for shooting in available light and offers significant control over depth of field, allowing for effective subject isolation through selective focus.
Special Low Dispersion (SLD) Elements
To enhance clarity and color fidelity, five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are incorporated to significantly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing. Additionally, one aspherical element and four high refractive index glass elements are utilized to manage spherical aberrations and distortion, resulting in improved sharpness and accurate image rendering.
Super Multi-Layer Coating
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting, thereby enhancing contrast and ensuring color neutrality, even in challenging backlit situations. The integrated stepping motor facilitates rapid and quiet autofocus, further refined by an optimized AF algorithm for smoother focusing performance.
Body Structure
The manual aperture ring can be de-clicked for seamless and silent aperture adjustments, which is particularly beneficial for video recording. Furthermore, a dedicated aperture ring lock switch is available to prevent unintentional changes to the aperture setting. An Autofocus-Lock (AFL) button is also included, allowing for the assignment of additional functions to expand the lens's operational capabilities. The rounded eleven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and aesthetically pleasing bokeh effect. Finally, the weather-resistant design, complemented by a brass bayonet, enhances mounting accuracy and overall rigidity.
