The Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens, designed for Sony E-mount, is a sleek and compact wide-angle prime lens that delivers exceptional sharpness from edge to edge, all within an elegant all-metal construction. This lens is particularly well-suited for capturing landscapes, cityscapes, handheld vlogging, and video streaming. It boasts a reasonably bright maximum aperture of f/2, enhancing its low-light capabilities and allowing for effective control over depth of field. Furthermore, its fast aperture makes it an excellent option for night sky photography and astrophotography. In terms of usability, the lens is equipped with a stepping motor that ensures rapid, precise, and silent autofocus performance, making it ideal for both photography and videography.
Refined Optics
This lens, part of Sigma's Contemporary line within the Global Vision series, aims to strike a harmonious balance between convenience and performance. It features a compact and lightweight design that allows for versatile handling while delivering impressive optical qualities. The construction includes one SLD glass element and one FLD glass element to effectively correct chromatic aberration. Additionally, it is equipped with three high-precision aspherical elements, contributing to a reduction in both size and weight.
Physical Design
The I-series lens showcases a refined and elegant physical design, adhering to the same operational standards as Sigma's Cine lenses. It features a mechanical aperture ring, knurled metal elements, and an array of switches and tactile controls that facilitate intuitive usage. This wide-angle 20mm lens is specifically crafted for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, but it is also compatible with APS-C models, providing a focal length equivalent to 30mm. With a bright f/2 maximum aperture, it achieves an optimal balance between speed and size, maintaining a compact form factor while delivering excellent low-light performance and depth of field control. Additionally, the rounded nine-blade diaphragm enhances the lens's ability to produce a smooth and aesthetically pleasing bokeh effect.
Fast Closeup Focusing
The integrated stepping motor enables a smooth and silent autofocus experience. Additionally, users can opt for full-time manual focus control through an arc-type auto/manual focus switch. A newly developed linear/non-linear manual focus function is also provided. The minimum focusing distance of 8.7 inches allows for exceptional close-up shooting opportunities.
All-Purpose Functionality
The lens features a robust all-metal construction and precision-engineered metal components, complemented by a dust- and moisture-resistant lens mount that enhances its durability against environmental factors. The metal lens hood effectively minimizes lens flare in bright lighting situations while providing additional safeguarding for the front element of the lens. It is also compatible with the optional CH-11 Magnetic Cap Holder, which includes a mini-carabiner for convenient attachment to bags, jackets, or belt loops.
