Capture your world, share your vision
Presenting a versatile feature set in an especially compact design, the Sony a6100 is an APS-C-format mirrorless camera well-suited for stills and video applications. Based on a hybrid concept, the a6100 combines an advanced sensor design and fast, intelligent AF capabilities with excellent video quality and intuitive handling for a sleek, carry-everywhere camera to capture your day-to-day adventures.
24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Processor
An updated APS-C-format 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor delivers smooth and detailed image quality with minimal noise and high sensitivity, ranging from ISO 100 to ISO 32000, which can be further extended to ISO 51200 for optimal performance in low-light environments. This sensor incorporates a distinctive design featuring thin copper wiring, improved circuit processing, and an advanced front-end LSI, all of which enhance light-gathering capabilities, minimize noise, and accelerate readout speeds, thereby benefiting video recording. The combination of this sensor with the BIONZ X processor enables a maximum continuous shooting speed of 11 frames per second with autofocus and auto exposure, while also allowing for 14-bit raw file output, providing a broad tonal and color range.
UHD 4K Video Recording in XAVC S Format
The device is capable of internal recording of UHD 4K video at various frame rates, reaching up to 30 fps, while utilizing the entire sensor width with 8-bit 4:2:0 color sampling through the 100Mbps XAVC S codec. Additionally, oversampled 4K recording is achievable, employing a 6K capture area within the Super 35 format to enhance detail. This method ensures full pixel readout without pixel binning, resulting in superior image quality with minimized moiré and aliasing effects. Furthermore, Full HD 1080p recording is available at frame rates of up to 120 fps, allowing for high-speed recording that supports 4x and 5x Slow & Quick Motion (S&Q) movie capture at frame rates of either 30p or 24p. Alongside high-resolution internal recording, the uncompressed HDMI output facilitates the connection of an optional external recorder for pristine 4K recording with 4:2:2 sampling. Moreover, 4K video recording provides the capability to generate 8MP still images during playback by capturing a frame from the video and saving it as a distinct file.
4D FOCUS
Encompassing almost the entire sensor region, an advanced 4D FOCUS system integrates 425 on-chip phase-detection points in conjunction with 425 contrast-detection zones, allowing for accurate focusing in as little as 0.02 seconds. The concentration of focusing points provided by this hybrid autofocus system also facilitates High-Density Tracking AF Technology, which excels at following moving subjects across diverse lighting environments.
Real-time Eye AF For Human
The Real-time Eye AF feature enables ongoing eye tracking during the capture of moving portraits. Users have the option to prioritize either the left or right eye, and this functionality remains effective even when the subject's face is partially obscured, illuminated from behind, or tilted downward. This technology allows for focus to be centered on the eyes of identified human subjects in portrait photography and is compatible with both AF-S and AF-C modes, applicable to both still images and video recordings.
Real-time Eye AF For Animals
Eye autofocus functionality is applicable for capturing images of animal subjects as well, regardless of the focusing mode employed for still photography. Sony's advanced eye-detection algorithms have been modified to accommodate both animals and humans, enabling the creation of sharply focused portraits of pets and stunning wildlife photographs.
Autofocus You Can Rely On
The Expand Flexible Spot feature utilizes adjacent focus points to maintain focus on dynamic subjects, even if the initially chosen point becomes unfocused. The Focus Magnifier function is available for achieving precise focus on intricate details of the subject. The rear touchscreen facilitates Touch Focus and Touch Tracking operations, while the Touchpad Focus Control mode allows for intuitive use of the rear screen without diverting attention from the viewfinder. Besides its autofocus capabilities, the a6100 is equipped with a Peaking MF function, which enhances manual focus control by highlighting sharp edges of contrast, providing a more objective approach to achieving sharp focus.
Body Design and Connectivity
The SVGA Tru-Finder features a 1.44 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, providing a luminous and high-resolution option for monitoring at eye level. Additionally, the 3.0-inch LCD touchscreen, with a resolution of 921.6k dots, can be tilted 180° upward or 74° downward, accommodating various shooting angles. This screen is enhanced with White Magic technology, utilizing an RGBW pixel arrangement to boost brightness, making it suitable for use in bright daylight. The touchscreen interface allows for Touch Focus control, enabling quick selection of focus points, and includes a Touchpad function that facilitates smooth and intuitive focus point selection while viewing through the viewfinder.
The integrated 3.5mm microphone ports provide enhanced audio control during video recording. The NP-FW50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery included with the device is capable of approximately 420 shots per charge when utilizing the LCD screen. In addition to battery operation, the a6100 can be powered through a USB connection to a computer or mobile battery, which also facilitates battery charging. The built-in Wi-Fi feature allows for immediate sharing of images to mobile devices, enabling direct uploads to social media platforms, email, and cloud storage services. Furthermore, NFC (Near Field Communication) support enables a seamless one-touch connection between the camera and compatible mobile devices, eliminating the need for complicated setup procedures. Once paired, the mobile device can display a live view from the camera and remotely trigger the shutter. Additionally, Bluetooth connectivity enables the acquisition of location data.
