The Sony Sonnar T* E 24mm f/1.8 ZA Lens is designed to be nearly distortion-free and boasts a rapid f/1.8 maximum aperture, making it an excellent tool for APS-C E-mount photographers to effortlessly capture challenging scenes. With a focal length equivalent to 36mm, this lens is particularly well-suited for street photography, interior shots, landscapes, and general use. The incorporation of one extra-low dispersion element, two aspherical elements, and the Zeiss T* coating ensures that images are produced with minimal aberrations and flare. Furthermore, the lens features a fast and silent linear autofocus motor along with an internal focus design, allowing for close focusing at a distance of just 6.3 inches, achieving a magnification of 0.25x. Additionally, it is equipped with a seven-blade circular diaphragm that contributes to the creation of smooth, rounded bokeh.
Drawing upon the Zeiss Sonnar optical design, this lens incorporates a configuration of eight elements arranged in seven groups, facilitating a substantial maximum aperture of f/1.8 while effectively minimizing flare and enhancing contrast. This wide-angle prime lens, tailored for APS-C Sony E-mount cameras, offers an equivalent focal length of 36mm. It is also compatible with full-frame E-mount cameras when utilized in APS-C mode. The f/1.8 maximum aperture empowers users to produce images with a shallow depth of field and to operate efficiently in low-light environments. Each lens surface is treated with Zeiss T* anti-reflective coatings, which serve to reduce reflections, thereby enhancing image clarity, contrast, and color accuracy. Additionally, the lens design includes one extra-low dispersion glass element, which aids in diminishing chromatic aberrations and color fringing, resulting in improved clarity and color neutrality. Furthermore, two aspherical elements are integrated into the design to mitigate astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
The incorporation of a linear autofocus motor along with an internal focus mechanism ensures rapid and accurate autofocus capabilities, facilitating precise and quiet focusing during video recording. The sophisticated optical design allows for a minimum focusing distance of merely 6.3 inches, achieving a maximum magnification of 0.25x, which enables photographers to obtain sharp close-up images. Additionally, the rounded seven-blade diaphragm enhances the aesthetic quality of bokeh when utilizing selective focus methods.
