Experience the remarkable 1:1 magnification capability of the full-frame compatible FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens designed for Sony's E-mount cameras. As a member of the G series, this lens achieves an exceptional balance between sharpness and bokeh through the incorporation of specialized optical elements, resulting in images of outstanding detail, smooth out-of-focus regions, and minimal aberrations. Additionally, the lens features a rapid f/2.8 aperture, allowing for effective depth of field control and performance in challenging lighting conditions, complemented by a Nano AR coating that significantly reduces ghosting and flare.
Close-Up Capabilities
A true macro lens provides a life-size, 1:1 magnification ratio and features a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches, making it ideal for capturing close-up subjects. The lens is equipped with a printed magnification scale and focusing distance on its surface, facilitating more precise technical applications. Additionally, a focus range limiter switch enables the user to restrict the focus range to either 11-19.7 inches, 19.7 inches to infinity, or the full range. The focusing ring of this lens can be adjusted forward and backward, allowing for a swift transition between manual and autofocus modes. The internal focusing mechanism ensures that the lens length remains constant during operation, enhancing focus accuracy and usability, particularly when working distance is a critical factor.
G Series Optical Design
The lens design incorporates two extra-low dispersion elements, one of which is a Super ED element, aimed at minimizing chromatic aberrations and color fringing, thereby enhancing clarity and color neutrality. Additionally, an aspherical element is included to mitigate astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and various other monochromatic aberrations. To further improve performance in challenging lighting conditions, a Nano AR Coating has been applied to diminish surface reflections, flare, and ghosting, resulting in enhanced contrast and color rendering. Furthermore, the rounded nine-blade diaphragm facilitates a visually appealing bokeh effect when utilizing selective focus techniques.
Autofocus and Image Stabilization
The Direct Drive SSM system, combined with an internal focusing mechanism, enhances autofocus performance by providing responsiveness and precision while maintaining a quiet operation, making it ideal for video recording scenarios. The focus hold button allows users to manually halt the autofocus at a designated point, and it can also be customized to manage various other assignable functions. Additionally, the Optical SteadyShot image stabilization significantly reduces the visibility of camera shake, resulting in sharper images when shooting handheld at slower shutter speeds. This stabilization technology can also be integrated with certain cameras' sensor-shift image stabilization for improved management of camera blur.
