The Canon EF 35mm f/2 is a compact classic wide-angle prime that has been part of Canon's EF system since 1990. Its 35mm focal length provides a natural perspective that works particularly well for street photography, documentary work, environmental portraits, and everyday shooting. The relatively fast f/2 aperture makes it useful in available light while also allowing some background separation. At only 210g, it is considerably smaller and lighter than Canon's later 35mm f/2 IS USM. Its 25cm minimum focusing distance and 0.23× magnification also give it useful close-up capability for a lens of this type. On an APS-C Canon DSLR such as the Rebel T3, its field of view becomes roughly equivalent to a 56mm lens, making it behave more like a normal prime.
