Compatibility Supports approximately 360 NIKKOR F-mount lenses for AE shooting, from AI lenses onward. 90+ AF-P, AF-S, and AF-I lenses can provide autofocus and autoexposure compatibility. Autofocus & Electronics Electronic communication between compatible F-mount lenses and Z cameras. Compatible AF-S/AF-P/AF-I lenses can retain AF and AE functionality. Older AF-D lenses can generally be used for exposure and manual focusing, but do not gain autofocus, because the FTZ has no mechanical screw-drive AF motor. Image Stabilization On Z cameras equipped with in-body VR, compatible F-mount lenses can benefit from the camera's stabilization. Nikon notes that non-CPU lenses can use in-camera VR when their focal length is registered in the camera. VR-equipped F-mount lenses can combine their optical VR with Z-camera stabilization.

Important Limitations Non-AI lenses are not compatible. Certain specialized/older F-mount lenses are incompatible. AF performance depends heavily on the specific F-mount lens. The FTZ does not convert every F-mount lens into an autofocus lens. With very heavy lenses over approximately 1,300 g / 2 lb 14 oz, Nikon recommends supporting the lens rather than putting the load on the camera/adapter mount.
