The Vivitar 35ES is a 35mm fixed-lens rangefinder camera introduced in 1978 and manufactured in Japan by Cosina for Vivitar. It features a sharp 40mm f/1.7 lens with a 6-element, 4-group optical design that made it popular for low-light street and everyday photography. The camera uses a coupled manual-focus rangefinder system paired with shutter-priority automatic exposure controlled by a CdS light meter. Its leaf shutter offers speeds from 1/8 to 1/500 second along with a Bulb mode, and it supports flash sync at all speeds via a hot shoe. The 35ES includes a brightline viewfinder with parallax correction and exposure warnings, helping improve framing accuracy in real-world shooting. Built with a solid metal body and weighing around 465 grams, it remains a compact yet durable classic among late-1970s rangefinders.
