The Yashica Electro 8 is a substantial Japanese Super 8 film camera designed with a sophisticated electronic exposure and zoom system for its era. The LD-6 features a fast 8–48mm f/1.8 six-times zoom, while the higher-specification LD-8 expands that to a 7.5–60mm f/1.6 eight-times zoom. Its TTL CdS metering system automatically controls the lens aperture and recognizes the film cartridge's speed, making exposure considerably easier than on fully manual Super 8 cameras. The camera also provides 18, 24, and 36 fps, single-frame shooting, power and manual zooming, plus built-in fade and lap-dissolve functions. Its SLR-style viewfinder with microprism focusing gives the camera a more serious filmmaking-oriented operation than many consumer Super 8 models. With its fast zoom, mechanical/electronic controls, and distinctive 1970s construction, the Electro 8 is particularly interesting for fashion films, music videos, experimental Super 8 work, and vintage-style cinematography.
