The Zoom H3-VR Handy Audio Recorder is a portable audio recording device featuring an integrated Ambisonics microphone array that facilitates versatile 360° audio capture. It also includes built-in Ambisonics A-to-B conversion, thereby removing the necessity for external processing. This device is not limited to virtual reality applications; it is also designed for sound recordists, audio engineers, and content creators involved in music, audio-for-video, game audio, and augmented reality production.
The device is equipped with an Ambisonics microphone array consisting of four capsules, allowing for recording in Ambisonics, stereo binaural, or standard stereo formats. This versatility makes it ideal for capturing intricate performances of studio-based instrument ensembles, solo acts, audience sounds, sound effects, electronic field productions, and more. The H3-VR facilitates full-sphere surround sound recording at resolutions of up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, along with real-time stereo and binaural monitoring. It also features onboard Ambisonics A-to-B conversion, which negates the necessity for additional post-processing on a computer. Users can export their Ambisonics recordings as stereo, binaural, or 5.1 audio files through the complimentary Zoom Ambisonics Player software, compatible with both Mac and Windows systems.
The device is designed for user-friendly operation, featuring a unified single-knob gain control, an LCD screen, and transport/menu buttons for straightforward configuration. Remote management of transport controls, levels, and metadata is achievable through the iOS H3-VR Control app and the optional BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter. An integrated 6-axis motion sensor automatically detects the microphone's position, ensuring accurate audio-to-video alignment and facilitating easy angle leveling. The dual 3.5mm outputs, each with independent level control, allow for simultaneous connections to headphones and a camera. Recording can be done on a microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card (sold separately), or audio can be streamed via USB to a computer or iOS device. The built-in slate function enables users to verbally mark takes for easier synchronization of audio and video files.
Powering the H3-VR can be achieved through two AA batteries or a USB connection, with the power LED also functioning as a clip indicator. A 1/4"-20 threaded hole located at the bottom of the device allows for attachment to a standard camera tripod. With dimensions of less than 5 inches in height and 3 inches in width, this recorder maintains a discreet and unobtrusive profile. It comes with a foam windscreen and a dual mount adapter.
Music Recording Applications in Stereo or 3D Sound:
Accurately capture rehearsals, ensembles, and solo performances in recording studios and concert halls; you can spice up your stereo recordings with the binaural mode that tracks at up to 24-bit / 48 kHz to enhance 2D productions with spatially accurate imaging compatible with standard headphones

Record dynamic Foley, sound effects, and ambience for film, television, and video game projects for Dolby Atmos Surround Sound as well as 5.1 Surround processing with the included Mac/PC software
Sound for VR
Record true 360° Ambisonic audio for immersive VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) in four channels at up to 24-bit / 96 kHz resolution for detailed 360° audio
Live Streaming Audio
USB 2.0 audio interface mode supports live streaming and recording via USB Micro-B connection
Versatile Playback, Decode, and Export Functions
The onboard decoder seamlessly transforms raw Ambisonics A audio into VR-compatible Ambisonics B audio, facilitating effortless integration with your 360-degree video content. You can export Ambisonics recordings as 5.1 surround sound files using the complimentary Zoom Ambisonics Player software, available for both Mac and Windows platforms. The 6-axis motion sensor automatically detects the microphone's position, ensuring that audio and video orientations remain synchronized across different scenes, irrespective of the microphone's placement. The integrated Ambisonics playback feature enables you to rotate the H3-VR, simulating spatial audio during playback. Additionally, it supports real-time headphone monitoring in either stereo binaural or simulated 360° mode. The device is equipped with separate 3.5mm headphone and line outputs, each with independent volume control, allowing for simultaneous connections to both your headphones and camera.
