Designed for musicians dedicated to their craft, the R12 MultiTrak by Zoom serves as a versatile and highly portable all-in-one production platform. It incorporates an 8-track, 24-bit / 44.1 kHz digital recorder along with 2x4 audio interface capabilities, all housed in a battery-operated unit, enabling music creation in any location. The R12 fulfills various roles for contemporary musicians, offering control surface functionality, 150 preloaded drum loops, a customizable metronome, a dedicated effects channel with four selectable options, compression on inputs 1 and 2, as well as pan and 3-band EQ control for each track. Additionally, it includes a tuner and a sophisticated FM synthesizer, facilitating the recording of albums, live performances, or the production of high-quality streaming content, enhanced by features such as sequence play for backing tracks.

The R12 features a sizable and vibrant 2.4" LCD touchscreen that offers user-friendly control options, including swipe editing. It is equipped with two XLR-1/4" TRS combo inputs, with input 1 supporting Hi-Z and both inputs allowing for selectable phantom power. Additionally, it includes balanced 1/4" monitor outputs, a 3.5mm output compatible with high-powered headphones, and a USB-C port for audio interface and bus power functions (cable provided). Powering the R12 is straightforward, requiring just four AA batteries for up to 5 hours of uninterrupted operation. Alternatively, the device can be powered using the included AD-17 AC adapter, offering three different power options for your recorder.

Equipped with two XLR-1/4" inputs and eight audio tracks, the R12 is ideal for capturing a wide range of recordings, from demos to fully polished songs. Its compact and portable design allows for recording and mixing directly on the device, eliminating the need for a computer. The full-color LCD touchscreen facilitates effortless cutting, copying, looping, and editing of your tracks.

The R12 features a dedicated send effects channel that provides reverb, chorus, and delay, accompanied by a specific effects return fader. For more sophisticated sound options, users can access presets and effects available through Zoom's Guitar Lab. Additionally, the R12 is equipped with panning capabilities and a three-channel equalizer for each track, as well as a compressor for inputs 1 and 2.

The R12 offers a runtime of up to 5 hours when powered by four AA batteries, enabling you to take your production to any location. Furthermore, the R12 can also be operated using the supplied AD-17 power adapter or a USB battery.

Playback or Play Along

Utilize Sequence Play to assemble a playlist of your projects, which can then serve as backing tracks for live performances or rehearsal sessions. The R12 features 150 preloaded drum loops across diverse patterns and genres, offering a flexible rhythm section suitable for any endeavor. Furthermore, you have the option to enhance your audio collection by importing files into your R12 using a microSD card or USB thumb drive.

Interface, Control Surface, and Time Keeper

Utilize the R12 as a stereo audio interface with your preferred digital audio workstation or streaming service through USB-C connectivity. As a control surface, the transport controls and faders facilitate seamless adjustments and management of your software during the production process. Engage the fully customizable click track with a single button press. The click balance feature integrates the metronome with your playback audio, directing it to your headphones and/or the main outputs.

The R12 has 18 FM synth instruments built in. They can be played by plugging in a MIDI keyboard via USB-C, or programmed using the touchscreen.
