The Hasselblad 907X 50C stands out as a uniquely modular medium format camera system that integrates design features from the brand's classic film cameras with the advanced imaging capabilities of modern digital technology. This system consists of the CFV II 50C digital back and the 907X camera body, which function together to create a distinctive and adaptable photographic platform.

Notably, the 907X is the smallest medium format camera ever produced by Hasselblad, with a thickness of just over one inch and a weight of only 7 ounces. Its design is reminiscent of the renowned 500-series V-system cameras, and this streamlined camera body primarily acts as a connection point between the V interface of the CFV II 50C digital back and the X-mount, allowing compatibility with XCD lenses as well as adapted lenses from various other mounts.

The CFV II 50C represents an advanced and enhanced digital back that features a traditional V-system interface, compatible with the included 907X as well as nearly all Hasselblad V cameras manufactured from 1957 onwards. This digital back is designed with the classic A12 and A16 film backs in mind, integrating modern digital functionalities centered around a 43.8 x 32.9mm 50MP CMOS sensor. This sensor produces high-resolution images with an impressive 14-stop dynamic range, a 16-bit color depth, and a sensitivity range of ISO 100-25600. Furthermore, it employs Hasselblad's Natural Color Solution, ensuring realistic and appealing color reproduction with excellent consistency and smooth tonal gradations. The design also features a rear 3.2" 2.4m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD, reminiscent of the experience of using a waist-level finder, and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery is now housed internally for a more streamlined appearance. Additionally, integrated Wi-Fi functionality allows for wireless remote control and file transfers through Phocus Mobile 2

Body Design

The 907X is distinguished by its remarkably compact and lightweight design, making it Hasselblad's smallest medium format camera body. It acts as a discreet interface between the V-system CFV II 50C digital back and the array of X-system mirrorless lenses. With the inclusion of an X-system lens mount, users can now combine the CFV II with autofocus and leaf shutter-enabled XCD lenses, in addition to HC, HCD, V, XPan, and various third-party lenses through optional adapters. Utilizing the 907X also enhances access to wide-angle lens options when employing XCD lenses, in contrast to the V system.

50MP CMOS Sensor and Hasselblad Natural Color Solution

The CFV II 50C features a substantial 50MP CMOS sensor, measuring 43.8 x 32.9mm, which enables it to capture an exceptionally wide dynamic range of up to 14 stops, along with a rich 16-bit color depth. When utilized in conjunction with the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution, the resulting tonal transitions and skin tones exhibit remarkable depth, detail, and clarity, ensuring lifelike image quality even in challenging lighting conditions, such as deep shadows and bright highlights. To accommodate various lighting environments, the camera offers a sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 25600, with image files saved in either the Hasselblad 3FR raw file format or as JPEGs.

Utilizing the remarkable image quality provided by the 50MP CMOS sensor, the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution is engineered to produce images with the most authentic colors, eliminating the need to explore various presets. This system excels in generating visuals with exceptionally smooth tonal gradations that evoke the essence of analog film photography, largely due to the CFV II's 16-bit color depth.

Beyond its ability to capture stunning still images, the CFV II 50C also supports high-resolution video recording, offering options for 2.7K (2720 x 1530) and HD (1920 x 1080) formats, utilizing the full width of the sensor in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The video is encoded using an H.264 compressed codec at a frame rate of 29.97 fps, allowing for recordings of up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds. Additionally, a 3.5mm mini-phono input port facilitates the connection of an external microphone during video capture.

Back Design

  • This digital back, equipped with a V-system interface, is compatible with the included 907X camera body, as well as nearly any Hasselblad V system film camera manufactured from 1957 onwards, and can also be utilized with technical and view cameras that have a V-system mounting interface.

  • The integrated 3.2-inch LCD, boasting a resolution of 2.4 million dots, features a tilting design that incorporates a touchscreen for enhanced control, menu navigation, and playback functionality. This updated display offers a rapid refresh rate of 60 frames per second, ensuring smoother playback. Additionally, it allows for the drag-and-drop placement of autofocus points and enables adjustments to autofocus point size through pinch and spread finger gestures. The tilting mechanism of the screen further facilitates a top-down viewing angle, similar to utilizing an optical waist-level finder.

  • Accepts one rechargeable lithium-ion battery internally in order to maintain the overall svelte profile reminiscent of A12 and A16 film backs. This battery can be charged in-back, too, via the USB Type-C port.

  • Dual SD memory card slots both support the UHS-II protocol for faster read/write speeds.

  • Built-in Wi-Fi permits wireless sharing of files as well as remote camera control. Additionally, Phocus Mobile 2 allows for a rich tethered shooting experience from an iPad Pro or iPad Air (2019).

  • USB 3.0 Type-C connector can be used for file transfer, tethered shooting from an iPad, or for in-camera battery charging via a computer, charger, or power bank.

  • Optimized for use with XCD series of lenses, which offer an integrated central shutter system, capable of sync speeds up to 1/2000 sec.

  • Phocus Mobile 2, available for select iPad models, permits importing, editing, and rating of raw images as well as importing and rating full-resolution JPEG images directly on a tablet. Additionally, Phocus Mobile 2 supports full-resolution image export, tethered shooting, and direct camera control.

  • Conventional computer-based tethered shooting is supported via the desktop version of Phocus.
