Presenting a state-of-the-art full-frame camera that has been enhanced with hybrid capabilities for both still photography and video recording. The Canon EOS R6 Mark II facilitates a wide range of photographic expressions that bridge the gap between capturing personal moments and professional productions, as well as between photography and videography. Unlock your creative potential in daily life with the EOS R6 Mark II.
24.2MP Full-Frame Sensor and DIGIC X Processing
The EOS R6 Mark II boasts enhanced resolution relative to its earlier model. It is equipped with a Canon-engineered 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor that offers approximately 24.2 effective megapixels, allowing the camera to produce crisp and detailed images, even in challenging low-light environments. Under any circumstances—be it day or night, indoors or outdoors—darker areas of the image are captured with minimal noise, even at elevated ISO settings and heightened sensitivity.
The R6 Mark II incorporates enhanced processing capabilities derived from the R3, aligning with the camera's multimedia functionality. This advanced DIGIC X processor enables high-speed burst shooting and high-resolution 4K video recording, allowing for continuous shooting at rates of up to 40 frames per second using a silent electronic shutter, or 12 frames per second with a mechanical shutter, while performing autofocus and autoexposure calculations prior to each frame. Additionally, the camera features a 30 fps RAW Burst mode, which facilitates pre-release capture, enabling the recording of events that occurred up to 0.5 seconds before the shutter is pressed.
Also, improved processing leads to improved low-light performance, with the sensitivity range now extending from ISO 100-102400, and expandable to ISO 204800 for working in very difficult lighting conditions.
UHD 4K Video Recording
In addition to capturing still images, the R6 Mark II's sensor is capable of producing high-resolution UHD 4K video at 60 frames per second, utilizing the entire sensor width. It supports 10-bit sampling with Canon Log 3, enhancing the video quality. Furthermore, a 6K recording area is available for oversampled 4K video at 30 frames per second, which contributes to improved sharpness, minimized moiré, and reduced noise levels. For those interested in slow-motion effects, the camera can record at 180 frames per second in Full HD resolution.
The device also supports HDR-PQ recording, facilitating in-camera HDR production as well as external recording through the micro-HDMI port, which allows for a clean 6K output at up to 60 frames per second. Additionally, the R6 Mark II offers unlimited recording times and is equipped with both microphone and headphone ports, along with a multi-function shoe that ensures compatibility with a wide range of accessories.
External 6K Raw Recording
The micro-HDMI port enables raw video recording when connected to a compatible external recorder. It supports ProRes RAW recording at resolutions up to 6K at 60 frames per second, utilizing the full width of the sensor, as well as 3.7K raw recording with a cropped sensor.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
The Advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system is equipped with 1053 automatic autofocus points that span the entire sensor area, delivering exceptionally rapid, responsive, and precise focusing capabilities. This phase-detection focusing mechanism is further enhanced by improved subject detection and tracking, leveraging deep learning technology to intelligently identify individuals, animals, and vehicles. The system automatically locks onto these subjects, ensuring sharp focus during shooting, including burst captures and video recording. Additionally, the Dual Pixel AF II operates effectively in low-light conditions, achieving accurate focus down to an impressive -6.5 EV, making it suitable for nighttime photography.
Sensor-Shift Image Stabilizer
The EOS R6 Mark II is designed with movie digital IS and a 5-axis in-body image stabilization system, facilitating smooth video recording with minimal camera shake. It offers up to 8 stops of shake correction through Coordinated IS, which integrates in-body image stabilization with optical image stabilization found in select Canon RF lenses. This feature enhances handheld shooting capabilities, particularly at slower shutter speeds and in low-light environments. Additionally, to address significant low-frequency camera movements, such as those encountered while walking during recording, electronic Movie Digital IS is available and can be activated separately.
Highly Accurate Subject Detection
Utilizing advanced Deep Learning Technology, the system now offers enhanced detection capabilities for horses, trains, and airplanes, alongside traditional subjects such as individuals, various animals including dogs, cats, and birds, as well as vehicles like cars and motorcycles, particularly within a motorsports context. To improve user experience, an Auto mode has been introduced, allowing the camera to automatically identify the subject type without requiring manual adjustments to the Subject Detection settings in the menu.
Head, Face, and Eye Detection
In scenarios where numerous cameras might find it challenging to identify a subject, the EOS R6 Mark II excels by being able to detect and focus on an individual’s head, face, or eye when the Subject Detection menu is configured to People. This feature enhances usability, facilitates rapid subject acquisition, and improves precision in capturing both videos and still images. Furthermore, users now have the option to specifically detect the subject’s left or right eye, which can also be assigned to a Custom Button, thereby simplifying the process of focusing on the desired eye at any given moment.
Animal Detection
The EOS R6 Mark II is capable of accurately tracking the entire body, face, or eye of various animals, including cats, dogs, birds, and now horses, ensuring both speed and precision, irrespective of the animal's size, posture, or facial orientation.
Body Design
EVF and Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD
The electronic viewfinder boasts a high resolution of 3.69 million dots and measures 0.5 inches, delivering a bright and detailed experience for eye-level viewing. Its rapid refresh rate of 120 frames per second ensures natural motion rendering, enhancing the realism of the viewfinder experience. The rear LCD touchscreen, measuring 3.0 inches and featuring 1.62 million dots, is designed with a vari-angle mechanism, making it particularly advantageous for front-facing recording, such as vlogging, as well as for capturing images from both high and low angles. The camera's refined body design includes four distinct control dials, allowing for intuitive tactile adjustments, while a joystick controller located on the back facilitates quick and easy selection of focus points and navigation through menus.
