Introducing the FUJIFILM GFX100RF, a groundbreaking camera that features a 102MP medium format sensor within a compact, all-in-one design, making it the perfect everyday tool for photographers. This innovative device combines the exceptional resolution of medium format photography with a stylish and lightweight rangefinder-style body, complete with a built-in wide-angle prime lens. It serves as an ideal instrument for travel photographers, street photographers, and other spontaneous creators who seek a harmonious balance of superior image quality and straightforward design.
102MP Medium Format Sensor & X-Processor 5
Leveraging the advanced sensor from the GFX 100S II, this 102MP 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor delivers exceptional resolution, 16-bit raw files, and 10-bit HEIFs. It features a wide dynamic range, minimal noise with a base ISO of 80, and offers cropping flexibility across nine different aspect ratios. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with FUJIFILM's premium X Processor 5, enhancing its overall performance for continuous shooting at speeds of up to 6 fps, recording in 4K video, and employing the Intelligent Hybrid AF system for swift and precise autofocus.
Aspect Ratio Dial and Digital Teleconverter
Beyond the remarkable image quality offered by the 102MP sensor, it also allows for versatility in aspect ratios and effective focal lengths (crops) without compromising on high effective resolution. To promote the use of these creative features, the GFX100RF is equipped with a dedicated Aspect Ratio Dial on the rear of the camera, along with a lever located beneath the shutter button to adjust the Digital Teleconverter settings:
- Positioned on the rear of the camera, just above the LCD screen, is a specialized dial that allows users to select from nine different aspect ratios: 4:3, 3:4, 5:4, 1:1, 3:2, 7:6, 65:24, 17:6, and 16:9. Several of these ratios are reminiscent of FUJIFILM's historical medium format film camera systems. For instance, the native 4:3 ratio is associated with the GX680 system, while the 7:6 format is linked to the GW670 and GF670 models. Additionally, the expansive 65:24 panoramic ratio originates from the TX-1 rangefinder, and the distinctive 3:4 vertical ratio is reminiscent of the GA645 and GS645-series 6 x 4.5 cameras.
- When shooting in JPEG + Raw or JPEG only, the selected aspect ratio will be displayed on both the electronic viewfinder (EVF) and the rear LCD. However, this aspect ratio information will not be visible when recording in raw-only mode.
- At the front of the camera, there is a rocker lever designed to cycle through three distinct Digital Teleconverter settings: 45mm, 63mm, and 80mm. These settings correspond to three of FUJIFILM's GF lenses intended for their interchangeable-lens GFX system. Given that the GFX100RF is equipped with a fixed 35mm f/4 lens, this feature leverages the impressive 102MP resolution to crop the image, effectively simulating the field of view as if using various focal lengths, while still preserving a satisfactory level of resolution.
Wide-Angle 35mm f/4 Built-In Lens
The distinctive feature of the GFX100RF is its integrated GF 35mm f/4 wide-angle prime lens, which transforms this camera into a user-friendly, always-ready point-and-shoot device while maintaining the outstanding image quality characteristic of medium format photography.
With a focal length equivalent to 28mm on full-frame cameras, it provides a versatile wide-angle perspective suitable for a variety of subjects, including street photography, documentary work, landscapes, interiors, travel scenes, and even close-ups, thanks to a minimum focusing distance of 7.8 inches. The f/4 maximum aperture is advantageous for shooting in available light and allows for some control over depth of field, while primarily contributing to a compact and lightweight design ideal for everyday use.
Internal ND and Leaf Shutter
Drawing inspiration from the X100-series cameras, the GFX100RF features a lens design that includes an internal 4-stop neutral density (ND) filter and utilizes a leaf shutter, enhancing exposure versatility.
- The 4-stop ND filter allows for slower shutter speeds or wider aperture settings in bright lighting conditions, making it ideal for scenarios where one wishes to emphasize subject movement through motion blur or achieve a shallower depth of field in sunny environments.
- In keeping with the characteristics of medium format cameras, the leaf shutter design enables synchronization with flash at any mechanical shutter speed (up to 1/4000 sec), facilitating creative fill flash techniques or effectively freezing motion while ensuring adequate background exposure.
Compact, Stylish, and Functional Design
Built for Everyday Carry, Travel, and More
The GFX100RF is a streamlined all-in-one solution, featuring a highly portable and user-friendly design that caters to travel photographers, everyday carry needs, and any scenario where a blend of superior image quality and a refined, specialized form is valued. Its rangefinder-inspired design, complete with an offset viewfinder, offers a comfortable and intuitive experience, evoking the charm of traditional rangefinder film cameras as well as FUJIFILM's latest X100-series and GFX 50R digital models.
- Compact and lightweight, the camera has dimensions of 5.3 x 3.6 x 3 inches and weighs 1.6 pounds when including the battery and memory cards. This makes it nearly half an inch smaller in all dimensions and 3.5 ounces lighter than the GFX 100S II camera body without a lens.
- It features machined aluminum dials that allow for direct adjustments to shutter speed and exposure compensation, along with dual control dials, a digital teleconverter rocker lever, an aspect ratio dial, a focus mode switch, and a manual aperture ring.
- The camera is equipped with dual SD memory card slots, providing versatile options for file storage.
- On the left side of the camera body, you will find 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports, a USB-C port for in-camera battery charging and file transfers, as well as a micro-HDMI port for video connectivity.
- It is powered by an NP-W235 lithium-ion battery, which is capable of delivering approximately 820 frames per charge.
- The weather-resistant design is enhanced when the included adapter ring and filter are attached, ensuring reliable performance in various weather conditions.
Electronic Viewfinder and Rear LCD
A 5.76 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) provides a vivid, sharp, and realistic image with a magnification of 0.84x. The information displayed within the viewfinder rotates in accordance with the camera's orientation, whether in horizontal or vertical shooting modes, and it also shows the image field that aligns with the selected aspect ratio. Additionally, the large 3.2-inch LCD, featuring 2.1 million dots, is designed with a three-way tilting mechanism, facilitating low-angle shooting in both orientations. This display incorporates a touchscreen interface, allowing for easy adjustments of settings and selection of focus points.
Included Accessories
In addition to the standard accessories like a battery and charging cable, the GFX100RF comes with several unique items. These include a custom metal lens cap that pushes on, an adapter ring, a protective filter, a coordinating square lens hood complete with a hood cap, and a rope-style shoulder strap. The adapter ring fits onto the front of the integrated lens and features 49mm threads, allowing for the attachment of screw-on accessories, such as the provided clear filter.
4K Video Recording
Originally intended as a camera for photographers, the GFX100RF also utilizes its advanced sensor and processing capabilities to facilitate high-quality DCI/UHD 4K video recording at up to 30 frames per second with 10-bit color depth. It allows for internal recording of H.265 and H.264 video formats onto SD cards, while ProRes 422 codecs can be employed for direct recording to an external SSD through the USB-C port.
