Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art Lens | Sony E
Soon to become an essential tool for every creator, the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art Lens is a lightweight wide-angle prime lens that excels in even the most dimly lit environments. Its expansive field of view makes it suitable for various applications, such as landscape photography, street photography, documentary work, and photojournalism. Complementing the versatility of its focal length, the fast f/1.2 maximum aperture provides exceptional subject isolation with beautiful bokeh, along with outstanding low-light capabilities, all while maintaining a portable design.
Improved Design
In addition to enhancing the optical capabilities, Sigma has reduced the weight of this new 35mm f/1.2 lens by approximately 30% and its length by 20% compared to the previous model. The lens is equipped with an assignable AFL button for personalized functions, along with a focus mode switch and an aperture ring lock. The aperture ring can be adjusted from a clicked to a declicked setting to facilitate smooth video recording. A water- and oil-repellent coating on the front lens element allows for shooting in challenging outdoor conditions, while the dust- and splash-resistant design safeguards the internal components.
Precision Optical Design
Sigma integrates four double-sided aspherical elements along with one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element to guarantee clarity from wide open at f/1.2 throughout the entire aperture range, all while minimizing the size of the lens. The lens comprises a total of 17 elements arranged in 13 groups, and features an 11-blade rounded diaphragm that produces expressive bokeh, effectively resisting optical aberrations such as color bleeding and double lines even at f/1.2. Significant efforts have been made to enhance backlight resistance, thereby reducing the likelihood of lens flare and ghosting.
Upgraded Focusing System
No longer limited to photography, the lens components have been enhanced to minimize focus breathing, establishing it as an excellent option for professional video applications. Driven by Sigma's dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) focusing mechanism, it offers rapid and silent autofocusing while maintaining portability.
