Creators who require swift autofocusing, auto-framing, and efficient content sharing while on the move can consider the Sony PXW-Z200 4K 1" CMOS Sensor XDCAM Camcorder. Designed for enhanced portability, this model is the successor to the PXW-Z190 and is equipped with a 1"-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor that supports up to UHD 4K resolution. It features AI-assisted autofocus and auto-framing capabilities, a variable electronic ND filter, BIONZ XR processing, and color matching with Sony Cinema Line cameras. Additionally, it offers an extended 20x optical zoom and includes built-in dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi along with Ethernet connectivity for direct streaming via RTMP/RTMPS, SRT protocols, and FTP options. The Sony Monitor & Control app allows users to monitor their recordings using a smartphone or tablet. A firmware update planned for the summer of 2025 will introduce broadcast-friendly MXF wrapping.
1" Exmor RS CMOS Sensor
The 1.0"-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor of the PXW-Z200 employs a stacked architecture to deliver superior image quality, enhanced readout speeds, and remarkable performance in low-light conditions. This sensor generates exceptional 4K visuals through 5K oversampling with complete pixel readout.
Longer 20x Optical Zoom
Achieve a variety of perspectives, from detailed close-ups to expansive wide angles, within confined spaces by utilizing the 20x G-series zoom, which corresponds to a 35mm full-frame range of 24-480mm. Activate the Clear Image Zoom feature to extend the zoom capabilities to 30x in 4K resolution and 40x in HD.
BIONZ XR Processing
The newest BIONZ XR TM image processor facilitates enhanced frame rates, accelerated autofocus, refined ATW control, and superior noise reduction. By maximizing the capabilities of the high-resolution image sensor, it allows for the capture of intricate textures and minute details. The 5K oversampling with full-pixel readout compresses a wealth of image data into breathtaking UHD 4K60 video.
Advanced AI-Assisted Autofocus
The PXW-Z200 employs AI-driven deep learning technology to achieve accurate recognition of human subjects. Its Fast Hybrid autofocus system, featuring an impressive 81% coverage, enhances the effectiveness of both Subject Recognition AF and Real-Time Tracking. A dedicated AI Processing Unit collaborates with BIONZ XR, utilizing deep learning techniques informed by human form and posture data to identify human subjects with remarkable accuracy. The extensive 81% coverage of the Fast Hybrid AF system significantly improves its capabilities in Subject Recognition AF and Real-Time Tracking, allowing the Z200 to seamlessly track and maintain focus on subjects throughout the frame.
Auto Framing
Effectively monitor your subjects with the Auto Framing feature, which automatically identifies human figures and adjusts the frame to ensure your subject remains centered. This function is particularly beneficial for solo videographers, as it simulates manual capturing while allowing you to focus on your subject. When Auto Framing is activated, the camera will autonomously track a recognized human subject and modify the framing to keep the subject prominently displayed. The resulting footage can appear as if a human operator was manually adjusting the framing throughout the shoot, despite the camera remaining stationary. This allows solo operators to concentrate on engaging with their interviewees without the need to frequently adjust the camera's position.
Flexible Frame Rates
Capture video in stunning UHD 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, with the capability to record high frame rates of up to UHD 4K at 120 fps and 1080p HD at 240 fps. The slow-motion options allow for 4x at 4K30 and 5x at 4K24p, complemented by advanced high-speed autofocus to maintain clarity on your subject. The Exmor RS sensor's rapid readout speed facilitates 4K high frame rate (HFR) recording at 120 fps and full HD at 240 fps. Experience 4x slow motion at 30p in 4K or 5x slow motion at 24p. Regardless of your creative direction, the high-speed autofocus ensures your subject remains sharply in focus. The Slow & Quick Motion feature supports recording at up to 4K 120 fps and FHD 240 fps.
Pro Broadcast and Film Looks
The presets for S-Cinetone, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild, and HLG Natural can be refined through adjustments to black levels, matrix settings, and additional parameters. Furthermore, the content produced by the PXW-Z200 can be color-matched with footage captured from other Sony broadcast and Cinema Line cameras.
Easy File Transfers
The PXW-Z200 enables users to upload both proxy and original clips directly from a memory card to a cloud or FTP server. Files can be transferred automatically upon the cessation of each recording, provided the destination server has been registered within the camera. Additionally, it is possible to record proxy clips in segments and transfer them in sequence while recording. The optional Creator's Cloud for Enterprise C3 Portal application, available for purchase, facilitates cloud transfers, ensuring faster access to video files for editing and sharing.
Advanced Image Stabilization
The integrated image stabilization significantly reduces camera shake, ensuring the smoothest possible footage. The Active Mode stabilization combines both optical and electronic components, allowing your handheld recordings to appear as if they were captured with a gimbal. Reduce the impact of camera shake through the built-in image stabilization. Achieve fluid and stable footage in Active Mode, where optical and electronic stabilization collaborate to create seamless handheld shots.
Recording Options
The availability of various recording options allows you to select the most suitable solution for each project you undertake. For the highest quality and post-production flexibility, opt for XAVC S-I, which offers 10-bit 4:2:2 4K (QFHD) recording utilizing Intra-Frame H.264. Alternatively, XAVC HS-L (H.265) and XAVC S-L (H.264) present options for 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 with Long GOP recording, facilitating longer recording durations and enhanced file efficiency. XAVC HS also permits the creation of smaller proxy files (up to 16 Mb/s) for easier previewing and editing. A firmware update scheduled for the summer of 2025 will introduce broadcast-friendly MXF wrapping.
4-Channel Audio
Integrate the MI (multi-interface) shoe with XLR connectors to facilitate the recording of up to four audio channels. The audio dials enable swift adjustments of levels for two channels, eliminating the need to navigate through a menu tree.
